Lyrics for In My Life as interpreted by Ice

In My Life Lyrics
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

The "harpsichord" solo is actually a piano (played by producer George Martin) recorded at half speed. A great song.

where i go to (went to, i'm now too old) camp in the summer, it was a tradition for nevermores (people, like me, who can't return) to sing this song a capella, in harmony, at the end of the session. i cry whenever i hear this song now.

This song is the ultimate lookin back, reflecting, mistakes and triumphs, loves and losses, missing your old friends, loving the new ones song! It was played on the Wonder Years a few times, along with many other Beatles songs. The best part about this song, is it all come back to one person "but of all these friends and lovers....there is no one compares with you", it all centers around true love, that one person that means more than all the others...in your life.

I'm only 18 and saying a beatles song which was released about 20years before i was born, is my favourite all time song may not be a common thing of someone my age, but it is true. this has been my favourite song for the last two years and i think it always will be. I recently split from my girlfriend, who i believed was my true love, it really hurt and this song reflects the way i feel about her, and life, and often makes me cry listening to it. i don't think ive known a song with so much meaning. It's also one of those rare songs that you can actually describe as being 'beautiful'.

This song reminds me of the first and only guy i've ever fallen in love with. He was and still is my best friend, and there was never a person who could've fascinated me more than he did. Although he doesn't feel the same feelings toward me, i will never stop loving him.

This is one of my favorite Beatles songs. The concept, the music, the lyrics...they all come together so perfectly. The harpsichord section is so original.

i hate to bring on a more crude view on this song, but i think it's about drugs. I mean... we all love the beatles, but they did have some pretty bad dug problems.
"there are placesi remember all my life, though some have changed" - maybe he was on a "bad trip"
"in my life, i love you more" - sadly he loves drugs?
"thought i know ill never lose affection, for people and htings taht went before, i know ill often stop and think about them" - friends and lovers are important, but the drugs are just utterly beautiful

Yeah, I know a lot of people who take this song to be a veiléd drug reference, and, heck, there are a lot of Beatles songs out there about drugs, so it may well be. Personally, however, I don't think this figures in it, I just think it's a nostalgia trip. All these memories remain from what you've done in your life, coming back to this place at this time... and so on, and so on. I'll add some more later with the help of a reference book.

Though The Beatles are most definitely not above veiled drug references in their music, I agree with Bobo. And like many of the entries before, this is my favorite Beatles song as well.

Yeah, I definitely like this track. Obviously, not every single Beatles track is not going to be about drug references.

This lyric, in fact, bears a resemblance to Charles Lamb's poem "The Old Familiar Faces" which John could have come across in the popular poetry anthology "Palgraves Treasury". The poem goes like so:

I have had playmates, I have had companions,
In my days of childhood, in my joyful school-days—
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have been laughing, I have been carousing,
Drinking late, sitting late, with my bosom cronies—
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I loved a Love once, fairest among women:
Closed are her doors on me, I must not see her—
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

I have a friend, a kinder friend has no man:
Like an ingrate, I left my friend abruptly;
Left him, to muse on the old familiar faces.

Ghost-like I paced round the haunts of my childhood,
Earth seem'd a desert I was bound to traverse,
Seeking to find the old familiar faces.

Friend of my bosom, thou more than a brother,
Why wert not thou born in my father's dwelling?
So might we talk of the old familiar faces—

How some they have died, and some they have left me,
And some are taken from me; all are departed
All, all are gone, the old familiar faces.

OH MY...this song is just a beautiful reminder of what's really going to matter someday...of meeting that one person, and you KNOW they're the one because the past just blurs together and it's only importance is the fact that it lead up to this point...to this person!!! :)

Totally. As for now, methinks all I can see is my blurry typing hand. That might be enibriation, but I'd bet against it.
