Using your reference to Vietnam as a metaphor, there was a code of conduct that no man should be left behind on the battlefield. However, many do get left behind in the battles of everyday life. This song says speaks of that, no one left behind: altruism. This song is about an every day war, a soldier carrying his buddy.
