I was out the other day
And I saw you in your big black car
And I was waving as you were passing
'Cause I know who you are

You had this look, that of an angel
It was such a bad disguise
Did you think for second I would not realize?

Tripping hard falling down onto the ground
'Cause I can't stand up and I can't fall down
'Cause I'm somewhere in the middle of this

I was out the other night
And I saw you so we had a fight
It was late and I was lonely
And it's such a long way home
So I asked you if you'd join me
For a single last call drink
So you turned and bought us 2
And you didn't even blink

You had this look, that of an angel
It was such a bad disguise
When you drink, it makes you angry
When I drink, I want you more and more and more

Tripping hard, falling down onto the ground
'Cause I can't stand up and I can't fall down
'Cause I'm somewhere in the middle of this

Well, I find it hard
I always tried to find the sane life
But I don't like the way things are
And I keep falling to my knees
Somewhere in the middle of this

General Comment:The way I see it is that it is about a guy who love this girl so much but circumstances makes it impossible for them to be together... a relationship of frustration and heartache...

    my favorite lines are:

"tripping hard falling down onto the ground
    cause I can't stand up
    and I can't fall down
and I'm somewhere in the middle of this"

for me this means the guy doesn't know where to put himself in their relationship... like hanging or sumthin'... he is just somewhere in the middle cause the girl doesn't have the courage to tell him where he should stand...

"when you drink it makes you angry
when I drink I want you more and more and more"

This line shows how he wanted the girl so bad...

a powerful feel of love and despair...

    nice song from Dishwalla...

General Comment:i cant believe this song doesnt have more comments; i cant get enough of it... it just describes my relationship with this guy *perfectly*
"and i was waving as you were passing / 'cause i know who you are"-- i was infatuated with him and was so thrilled when he said hi to me, just because i knew him.
"you had the look that of an angel / it was such a bad disguise."-- i truly thought that he could do no wrong; he was perfect to me... too bad that he didnt see things in the same light that i did.
"and did you think for a second i would not realize"-- i knew him so well and could always tell when he had a bad day... even when no one else noticed and even when he tried to hide it.
"'cause i cant stand up and i cant fall down"-- he didnt know that i liked him, and i couldnt stand up and tell him, but i couldnt get over him either.
"so you turned and bought us two, and you didnt even blink"-- he just seemed so casual when we were together, he didnt think anything of it; it killed me because i worshipped the very ground he walked on.
"when i drink i want you more and more and more"-- that line is my *favorite*, i cant help but throwing my head back and drinking in the feeling. and no matter what he does, no matter what i do to try and get over him, i always want him more and more and more.

General Comment:I'm sorry guys, some of you have the idea, but knowing almost everything about this specific band, I can tell you the meaning behind this song. It was actually about a bad relationship the lead singer had, he was miserable, but the woman in the relationship was so dependant and fragile, that he was scared she might be suicidal if he split, but he was miserable. Obviously, this song can mean anything to you that you want it to, but that was what the song was written for

General Comment:charredpunk raises an interesting question, but there's one flaw with the theory...if he's trying to get her drunk, why did SHE buy the drinks? "so I asked you if you'd join me for a single last call drink so YOU turned and BOUGHT US 2 and you didn't even blink"...

I agree with most of the above assessments that it is a post break-up song; but says who SHE DUMPED HIM? An alternate theory on this song's meaning: HE DUMPED HER BECAUSE SHE IS A DRUNK, and that's not how he wants to live his life. He loves her and wants to be with her, but at the same time he knows she’s bad for him and is trying to do the logical thing. (“well I find it hard I always tried to find the sane life but I don't like the way things are”).

He runs into her at the bar, and she starts a fight with him, presumably because he dumped her and didn’t approve of her drinking. But, with a few drinks in his system, he's feeling a little lonely, lustful and uninhibited. He gives in to his feelings for her and asks her for a last call drink...which SHE eagerly buys without hesitation. She wants him drunk so he'll leave her alone about her drinking and get him to accept her alcoholism and just be with her because he wants to. He obviously loves her, and sees the things in her that are good, especially her looks. But he knows she's bad for him ("had the look that of an angel..such a bad disguise") because she's a drunk ("you..bought us 2 and didn't even blink")

When he's drunk, he gives into the side that wants to be with her, but he's trying to cut her loose. He knows he’ll regret this later; he's trying to let her go, but he still wants to be with her at the same time. He's wrestling with doing what's right and what's wrong, and can’t commit to making the choice. And that’s why he’s “somewhere in the middle…”

Just a thought to throw out there….
