oh my god this song is brilliant.. its so about love and not being able to get it from the girl or guy you want so badly the lines:
"i am in such a mess i can't cope without this
she just teases me pretends she can't see me here"
sums up love to me.. how it can make you feel like crap and feel its the end of the world and something we all want so badly.. and being deprived of it from the girl you love is just annoying.. to say the least

this song is amazing.i owned the final straw cd before seeing them a couple months back but had never heard the earlier songs. this song blew me away and is definately my favorite by them.
it's just so emotional and you can feel the meaning of it. mhm. classic.

I saw this played live (screeched along, too) and really, it's so beautiful Gary Lightbody's voice was almost shaking.

you know what? i know i've written a comment already but none of you other people can possibly imagine how beautifully beautiful this song is. it is even more beautiful than the most beautiful song in the world which is, in my opinion, hallelujah, by jeff buckley, not the leonard cohen version. if you haven't heard it and you like snow patrol then you haven't been properly educated. it's like all of the bitter sweet, happy sad feelings i ever felt all let out in this song that shouldn't even be called a song it should be called something more special. i know i sound a bit over the top but seriously, if you think i am then you can't have heard the song properly. or in the right place. Where you hear something really matters. i knew this song was quite pretty when i listened to the album for the first time , which was about 2 years ago but then that summer i bought the album and i listened to it while we were sailing in scotland there was this huge sunset.sounds so soppy and stupid but you know when something simple just brings back an undescribable feeling which nothing else can? well thats what that song does for me.

This is the kind of song that can save your life, if you need it enough. It is mind-numbingly, yet savagely sweet.

To call this song "beautiful" would be redundant (since everyone else above already has called it that). It is sublime. Superlatives fail me.

Powerful is an understatement, sirius1. What a fantastic song, it really makes me feel quite emotional, the way Gary Lightbody's almost pleaful voice screams the words.

In my opinion, the song is about wanting someone who is believed to be higher in the social heirachy than you. you think they dont want you because of this. Thats what a think because of the line "Just let me be here/ I wont tell anyone..."

This is the most perfect song! It is beutifully comforting yet heart wrenchingly emotional! The sad thing is most people have not even heard it as it was on a snow patrol album that was released before they made it big with final straw!! It beats anything on that album hands down. I believe its about a secluded secret place, the most beautiful place which only a few know of (Sworn to secrecy I might go after school). At this place he meets the girl of his dreams (She was an angel I saw her swimming there). The girl teases him by ignoring him but he is in love and wants to spend for ever there but in the end she breaks his heart! Top song

I always felt that this song is about being with someone you shouldn't be with - perhaps someone who is in another relationship...
Also other songs on the album 'When it's all over we still have to clear up' give me this impression too.
The whole thing of not wanting to wake up and wanting to spend the whole night together - "Stay with you all night/just let me love you'... 'Just let me be here/I won't tell anyone'.
What(who)ever it is about it is a very beautiful song.

snow patrol are one of the most amazing, most talented bands around. gary lightbosy is an absolute genius. this song is so wonderfully amazing. it tears at my heart every time i hear it. it makes you want to cry, but not as in bawl your eyes out, but just shed a few quiet tears. i think that the lyrics are pure genius as are all off snow patrol's songs. they are truly incredible. i think this song means different tings to everyone and yet at the same time exactly the same thing as well. it's kind of hard to explain but hey i know what i mean

This probably my favourite song of all time but i seem to have interpreted it differently to most people on her.
I always thought it was about being on the edge of a relationship when the girl he is infatuated with is stringing him along a bit - "i am in such a mess i can't cope without this, she just teases me pretends she can't see me here"
and he is unsure of how she'll react if he comes out and tells her his feelings "this could be heaven but i don't know where i am, i am too scared to come out from behind here"
Anyway im probably wrong but u know.....

I think if I listen to it more, it'll evoke some kind of higher emotion in me than it does now. I find this song to be incredible, but I know in a few more listens, it'll make me sob.

This song means a hell of a lot to me, I listened to it over and over during certain times of my life and so I came to associate it with those times and the people involved.

It just suggests to me a huge longing to be somewhere, or perhaps more likely, with someone, but not knowing how to go about reaching that place/person. The line "She just teases me, pretends she can't see me here" makes me think that 'she' doesn't notice the singer... not necessarily in a malicious way, but that's the way it makes him feel, and that's what hurts the most.
