i couldn't believe what i was seeing
faces all screwed up like what i'd done
i didn't mean to hurt you so much
i knew it would hurt you but not like this
we all make a mess from time to time dear
but it'll take me a lifetime to get this cleared
somebody muttered something under their breath
but i let on like i was a little deaf

nobody's perfect that's what i say
no one has hurt me so much you say
i'm sorry

running away seemed like the easy
thing to do because i wanted time
to put a smile back on my dour face
for once nothing's missing and i feel fine
i was afraid to tell you some things
but some things all find a way to get told
hearing it from the lips of somebody else
must have knocked the wind out of your sweet chest

General Comment:Yea he really does sound like a compulsive cheater here. I've never cheated on anyone, but I know what it's like to sabotage a great relationship because of something stupid and selfish. It's like whenever you find someone that makes you happy, your subconscious sets out to be a complete dick to them. And strangely, if you do it enough, you start to feel less remorse and more annoyance that the person doesn't just leave you already. Bleh. Part of me is an ungrateful, useless twat sometimes, and maybe I'm trying to warn other people of that ;)

    Yup, that sounds better :D

these lines say everything of this song! it's about apologizing and forgiving and making mistakes

I really really like this song because Gary's voice is so great and also the guitar in this song is soooo good!

General Comment:Every single one of Lightbody's songs have been written about one woman that he really loved, who he messed it up with and who he wants back.
    Every single bloody song.

    Morbid, no?

General Comment:Relax. I'm sure the intrigued one didn't mean to sound harsh.

Anyway, sounds like Gary hurt the girl. People/friends know. Now he's feeling extremely guilty as to how he hurt the girl and then attempted to hide his guilt.

    General Comment:^^^^
That comment made me laugh, there is no proof he was cheating on the person in this song, and even if he was doesn't mean he makes a habit of it. I agree that he has written many songs that may imply cheating, but often several songs can be written from one situation displaying different aspects of it.

Or maybe he just made it all up.

Andyway it is a great song.

the guy in the song screwed up big time and he knows it, he knew he was doing it and he didnt care, the when the person found out he saw how much he had hurt them and feels shit about it!
