When you are balancing
the leaves on a backyard tree
leaning over the railing you are standing on
All the blood that has gone to your head
disagrees with the bricks that its spilling on.

You awaken to words not ready to hear.

The dogs put to sleep,
your brother no longer is here.
But Thanksgiving is coming
and you have such a wonderful scar, dear.

When you are jumping out of your sensitive skin
for seventeen years shivering only everyday
from the wood shops, and fig trees
and fingers gone missing
secretly strange.
Your balance has vanished,
you wake on concrete in a daze.
While you were unconscious,
the quiet ones crowded the stage.

When you are choking on fire
you are breathing the south
infront of your friends house too late.
All the ashes are flying beside her tonight
uncovering everything.
All the sickness built up in your body
over so final and suddenly.
Back-sliding through tunnels of light,
come alive while putting your life to sleep.

You awaken to words not ready to hear
unrecognizably, perfectly clear

But Thanksgiving is coming
And you have such a wonderful scar, dear.
Thanksgiving is coming,
And you have such a wonderful scar.

General Comment:Everyone is shaped by their past, childhood especially, for good or for bad. When you're injured, you're left with a scar to remind you of that incident. So as you grow up, you're left with a "scar" of everything that happened to you in your childhood. And it's your scar, no one has one exactly like it. So it's your wonderful scar.

General Comment:To me the song sounds like a college freshman returning home for the first time, and being reminded of how much they hate their home, and what it did to them when they were there. Also, they're remembering all the things that had happpened to them while they lived there.

General Comment:I think the song is the story of someone that fell and woke up from a coma and everyone had changed, and he'd missed so much, but Thanksgiving was coming so he could at least try to catch up with family and stuff.

General Comment:Sorry take two......i was going to say, Felis, that is such a sad story you shared. I cant imagine how difficult your youth must have been. But isn't it wonderful when we stumble across a song, and its as if that song was written entirely for you. And just for a moment you get the feeling that someone understands. I have songs like that too.

These lines always make make me think of myself, and the whole meaning comes clear. The thing is that my much older brother sexually abused me for many years and when this was brought to surface he wasn't allowed to visit us anymore, BUT "thanksgiving is coming and you have such a wonderful scar dear", everytime a holiday like christmas or any other family stuff comes there's always this big argue about if I can stand having him around or not, and I always end up crying upstairs with my family including my brother are partying downstairs. That's my wonderful scar. And it never fades much because at these times I have to have him around for my family's best.
Yeah well, that's what this song is about to me. It's about me.
