I know that's absolutely not the meaning of the song, and rather it's a song made specifically to describe the relationship between a mother gorilla and her human son... But yeah, that's always the feeling I got when listening to this song... ;)
Oh, just listening to this song reminds me of the wonderful childhood I had~
But everytime I listen to this song, I can't help but hear it as a song about a gay relationship. (There's a better way to put it, but I can't think of it right now)

I'm not saying that this is what it is meant to be. It's a nice song about a love between a gorilla and a human, as well. But I like to/can't help but listen to it as song about two gay people breaking bounderies for love.
