Darkness coats us.
The smell of fall.
Changing season.
The graveyard is alive, black cat across my path,
the chill of cold wind, the breath of the dead.
Imprisoned souls.
Trapped for eternity.
Black crows break the silence.

The garden of the dead s alive tonight and you can't stop it.
Just enjoy it.
Open up your mind and you will feel it too.
The sound, the touch, the thoughts, that you've been so blind to.
You can feel the thoughts of the dead.
Feeling the thoughts of the dead.

True or false, it's still there, teaching me.
True or false, still there, teaching me.
You can feel it tonight.
The wood has rotted away.
Take the time absorb it.
Their time is slipping away.
Stone all carved by hand.
Statues that resemble their faces.
They still breathe.
Come join us.

Smell the burning ember's, night flickering away.
Timeless but soon gone.
Timeless but soon gone.
I can find myself, alone with just my thoughts.
As time crumbles away.
As I crumble away

General Comment:It's so funny to see how people reacted to this song back when it was first released. I love songs like this that really show off what amazing talent the Rev had.

My Interpretation:I just learned about easter island in history class and a lot about this song sounds like what the people had to go through when they turned on their gods for depleting their own resources including burning all of the wood from trees(the wood has rotted away, smell the embers burning.) They knew their time was running out before they would be totally gone (time flickering away.) This made them so paranoid that any strange thing would disturb them (crows breaking the silence.) They thought they were the only people on the world and were totally secluded from everybody else (trapped for eternity.) They also hand-carved the stone statues that looked like their gods (stone all carved by hand, statues resemble their faces.)In the end the people would sit around in a cave alone just counting the days until they finally leave the world (i can find myself, alone with just myself as time crumbles away.) That's just my take on the song, I really want to believe that I'm going in the right direction with this but I hope this helps anybody who's wondering

My Interpretation:i just learned about easter island in my history class and this sounds like a description of what they went through and ended up turning on their gods. they depleted all their resources including wood from trees (burning embers, the wood rotted away). they were secluded from the rest of the world being on the island (trapped for eternity). they made the statues by hand from giant stones (statues resembling their faces). and thats just my take on the song. i hope it helps anybody

General Comment:this song is amazing....the drum solo, the singing, the screaming, and that "screech" they play out on the guitar is sick..

    General Comment:Plus

Avenged Sevenfold is sick. I don't give a fuck if they changed their music styles, but they still kick ass.

General Comment:I see it as this: The song is about how people fuck over another so easly, how ever it may be wether it's critisizm or pure hatred. Not the fact that they do, but how they do it. A horrible way for the victim.

The dead would be the people who fuck you over. And the things like the crows and such is just the way everything becomes afterwords, just depressing. When it says, "you can feel the thougts of the dead," i see it as you are aware of their existance and you don't know weather it's good, or bad. When it says, "just enjoy it," it could be saying to let it be. It's saying that other people don't matter.

That's just how i see it.
