Dejalo si quieres continuar (hermano)
Sal ilumina tu vida
Todo el cielo aplatandote
Dime que harás (intentalo)
Ilumina ese amor
Antes que se vaya

Algo siemre te entristese
Cuando todo va bien
Que pasa contigo?
Que pasa contigo?

Dejalo si quieres continuar
No ocultes tu alma al sol
Tienes una vida preciosa
De que sirve si solo
Mueres suavemente

Que pasa?
Que pasa contigo?
Que pasa contigo?
(Mi hermano)
Que pasa contigo?
Escucha a tu propia voz
Salva tu amor
Que pasa contigo?
Antes que se vaya
Si todo va bien
Que pasa contigo?
Que pasa contigo?
Mirate a ti mismo
Enfrentalo
Que pasa contigo?
Mi hermano
Ven animate
Que pasa contigo?

    now what you do?

General Comment:I think this song is about Damon Albarn's tortured soul.

There's a lot of google translate poor translation posts from other people...seems the native speaker has it most right. Languages don't translate literally as most of you probably know. Disclaimer: I'm a native english speaker and studied spanish for 4 years and one college semester (300 level).

I've listened to both the english and spanish versions extensively. Btw you can find the "original" spanish version on gorillaz self-titled debut album, and the english version on G-Sides.

Since Damon sings the english in first person, I think Damon is talking about himself, and when he had Ibrahim Ferrer sing the spanish version, he is talking to Damon (which is why he refers to him as brother, hermano). The Spanish version is notably more cheerful, as if trying to cheer Damon up, while Damon's is very melancholy and is sung as if he has given up. It is pretty clear that Ibrahim is trying to talk Damon out of killing himself. "Salva tu amor, antes que se vaya" - save your love before you go! (before you go, before you kill yourself). He goes on telling whoever he is talking to, "Look at yourself! Face it! What is up with you? When everything is fine, something still gets you down."

The lyrics are more or less analogous, with slight changes because of the point of view change, and really the attitude change between the two versions. The part where Ibrahim speaks, rather than sings is an added part to the Spanish version, continuing with encouraging words to Damon. Escucha a tu propia voz...listen to your own voice.

The line "No ocultes tu alma al sol" -- alma is not love, as someone put. It's "don't hide your soul from the sun", alma being soul. "Que pasa contigo" is more of an idiom and rather than literally meaning "what happens with you?" It's more like "what's up with you?"

Dejalo si quieres continuar - Quit it, if you want to survive (keep going).
No ocultes tu alma al sol - Don't hide your soul from the sun.
Tienes una vida preciosa - You have a precious life.
De que sirve si solo - That is if only
Mueres suavemente - you die gently. (Your life is precious, and you must be at peace with your death)

Here's what I think the english lyrics are (not a translation of this, but the actual english version):

Give up, if you want to survive
Get oh so light, in your life
Everything fallin out the sky and
tell me you, now what you do?

    Seal(?)yourself up now
it's the love of your life,
    surely you'll meet.
All I know the forest(?) gone,
I always feel it's getting me down
    when nothing's wrong

    What's the matter with me?
    What's the matter with me?

Give up, if you want to survive
    Pick the sun back up
You go to get on the sun, lonely
    What's the point?
It's funny til you're left to kill yourself
    in this town

So, what's the matter with me?
    What's the matter with me?
    What's the matter with me?
    What's the matter with me?

This last part is a bit of a stretch, so take from it what you will. I was trying to figure out why the song could be called Latin Simone, obviously Latin is self-explanatory, but Simone? I couldn't find any spanish translation for Simone, but the name Simon is one possible explanation, from Hebrew meaning "He who has heard/hears [the word of God]" Maybe Ibrahim is the voice of God/reason, and Damon, confusion and chaos. Like I said, it's a stretch and the title of the song (arguably the song itself) requires no real explanation.

It's also worth noting that, especially on Gorillaz self titled debut, a lot of the lyrics on other tracks are gibberish (from the horses mouth!), so the inaudible, indiscernible parts of the english version of Latin Simone could just be Damon muttering in broken English.

A beautiful, beautiful track in both iterations. Melancholy songs for melancholy moods.

My Interpretation:some parts (if not most of it) kinda sounds like the English version is a reply to the Spanish one

General Comment:Ok spanish is my first language so I think I can contribute with a reliable translation...

let it go if you want to continue
    go out, illuminate your life
    the whole sky crushing you
    illuminate that love
    before it goes away

    something always saddens you
    when everything is going alright
    something always saddens you
    when everything is going alright
    what is up with you?
    what is up with you?

Let it go if you want to move on
don't hide your soul from the sun
    you have a precious life
so what's the use if you just softly die?

    What is up?
What is up with you my brother?
    what is up with you?
    listen to your own voice
    save your love
    what is up with you?
    before it goes away

    If everything is going alright
    what is up with you?
    what is up with you?
    Look at yourself
    Face it
what is up with you my brother?
    come, cheer up
    what is up with you?

It is a beautiful song. I think he could be talking to himself or he could be talking to someone else... it doesn't matter. For me it has to be about consciousness ... we let ourselves get caught with problems that don't really matter at all. Work, school, shopping, relationship drama.... we forget the things that matter the most, like the fact that we are alive and that we could die at any given time.... we have limited time on this earth, so do the people that surround you...

If you always worry about the little things, you are slowly dying because you are not living your life to the fullest.

General Comment:I think the song is about someone who recently lost something that he cant get over. He just cant understand why it causes himself so much pain. There could be more depth to it, but I think that what it is generally about. I thin the english version has the same meaning too.

General Comment:no, the one in the spanish version is talking to himself as if he was looking at himself in third person...

it's common in spanish to talk to themselves in third person...or like if it was his conscience

General Comment:The Spanish version, he asks "What's wrong with you?" ("Que Pasa Contigo?")

The English version, he asks "What's the matter with me?"

So the Spanish person is talking to the guy in the English version?

General Comment:I'm confused though. When I look at the English version it has different lyrics to what the apparent intrepretation is.

This is the start of one intrepretation is,
Give up, if you wanna survive
(can't quite make out this line) Get oh so live
    In your life everything
Falling out the sky on top of you
    Now what you do

& then we have some one else saying the intrepretation is,
Leave it if you want to continue, brother
    It illuminates your life
    The whole sky
Tell me what you will do, try it
Illuminate that love before it goes away
    Something always saddens you
    When everything is going fine
    What is up with you?
    What is up with you?

So which one is it? =p
