I'm dreaming of sleeping next to you
I'm feeling like a lost little boy in a brand new town
I'm counting my sheep and
each one that passes is another dream to ashes and they all fall down.
As I lay me down tonight,
I close my eyes and what a beautiful sight
I'm sleeping to dream about you
I'm so tired of having to live without you
But I don't mind
I'm sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired
I found myself in the riches your eyes, your lips, your hair
Well you were everywhere
But I woke up in the ditches. I hit the light and I thought you might be here
but you were nowhere. You were nowhere at home.
As I lay me back to sleep
Lord I pray that I can keep
Sleeping to dream about you
I'm so tired of having to live without you
But I don't mind
I'm sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired
It's just a little a lullaby to keep myself from crying myself to sleep at night
Sleeping to dream about you
I'm so tired of having to live without you
But I don't mind
Sleeping to dream about you and I'm so tired

Anyway...this song reminds me of Marc Anthony's "When I Dream At Night" --similiar message. I think that Mraz is stating that he's waiting for his dreamlover to come and that sometimes the dreams are so good he wants to believe they are real so he wakes up...realizing it's not as good as he thought (hence the 'ditch') and he goes back to bed...probably in hopes he can find 'her' again.
I found myself in the riches
(Your eyes, your lips, your hair.)
Well you were everywhere
But I woke up in the ditches.
...the fact that his lover's eyes, lips, & hair (the natural beauty of a woman) are his riches = sentimental and honest. This song is quite vunerable...and I think it'll remain a favorite song while I am also searching for my dream man :(
woo run on sentence?
I think a lot of people are saying this song reminds them of a long distance relationship. I can believe it but, for me it reminds me of an ex gf that I would love to be with but, just cant. In your dreams you can dream of being together but everytime your awake you are forced to live life without them. "Im so tired of having to live without you." It means in our dreams is that place we can go and forget the facts that you are not with the one you love. Thats just me
I'm sleeping to dream about you
I'm so tired of having to live without you
Where are you?
