Lyrics for Help as interpreted by Ice

Help Lyrics
Help, I need somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know, I need someone
Help

(When)
When I was younger, so much younger than today (I never needed)
I never needed anybody's help in any way (now)
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find, I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?

(Now)
And now my life has changed in, oh, so many ways (my independence)
My independence seems to vanish in the haze (but)
But every now and then I feel so insecure (I know that I)
I know that I just need you like I've never done before

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?

When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way (now)
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find, I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?
Help me, help me

I can't remember from the book to be totally honest, I'd have to go home and reference the book before I can validate your theory. ;D

on the greatest hits record (not on the cd) the music intro sounds like james bond theme a bit. Great song

I recently read an article saying that "Help" was the first song that was written that had LSD meanings behind it.

John 1980: "When 'Help' came out, I was actually crying out for help. Most people think it's just a fast rock 'n roll song. I didn't realize it at the time; I just wrote the song because I was commissioned to write it for the movie. But later, I knew I really was crying out for help. So it was my fat Elvis period. You see the movie: He -- I -- is very fat, very insecure, and he's completely lost himself. And I am singing about when I was so much younger and all the rest, looking back at how easy it was. Now I may be very positive... yes, yes... but I also go through deep depressions where I would like to jump out the window, you know. It becomes easier to deal with as I get older; I don't know whether you learn control or, when you grow up, you calm down a little. Anyway, I was fat and depressed and I was crying out for help."

Help is the first LSD influenced song.

"But now these days are gone and I’m not so self assured,
Now I find I’ve changed my mind I’ve opened up the doors."

I believe the reference to opening up the the doors is in reference to the "doors of perception" by Aldous Huxley after his first physchedelic trip.

I think the "you" spoken of in "Help me if you can, I’m feeling down,
And I do appreciate you being around,
Help me get my feet back on the ground,
"

Is in reference to his sanity and perception on life, a sight that is often seen much differently after the "doors have been opened"

He likes larger girls - "I do appreciate you being round" :D

Great song.

PS - No disrespect intended. Just my immature opinion on the lyrics.

help was written when beatlemania was at its height and that the could go nowhere with out being noticed or mobbed by screamig girls, especially in america when they toured. Apparantly he said it was like being in the centre of a tornado with them at the centre with the peope around them goin around at 100 mph.
so john was trying to say help get me out of this mess for a while so i can get my head together.

I'd hate to bresk it to you, TrippinFool. You're wrong about the LSD stuff.

George's dentist gave George and John LSD AFTER Help and before Rubber Soul. :)

Great song, John played this nsong with Cynthia and Maureen as their audience. And they loved it. And you kno what happened next...

to "open up the door" also means to let someone into your life (as in, he used to shut people out when he was confident, but now he needs somebody, so he's letting them in)
people need to stop thinking every fucking song is about drugs

Great song, love the vocal layering, love the simplicity of the lyrics. One of those songs that anyone can relate to. The Howie Day cover on the I Am Sam soundtrack is also very good. Better? No. But its good!

I love Deep Purple's cover of this song on their first album. If you could get your hands on it, it's so worth the $1 I paid for the vinyl record! It also has Hey Joe and Hush covers. As for their cover, it's a calm rendition with a blasting jazz organ solo. It sounds a lot more desperate and melancholy.

As for the song itself, love it.

I think this one is a lot like "All By Myself" in that he's simply growing up and realizing he can't be happy doing everything on his own. After years of trying to do everything by himself, and even telling those who loved him he was fine and needed nobody, he has come to realize he needs to let go of some of his pride and just get help from those who love him. I don't know what he needs help with though lol.

I don't mess with psychedelics anymore...or any drugs for that matter. But the people who try to deny the strong drug references in so many beatles songs are sadly mistaken.

Is this song about a first acid trip? Could be, I'm not sure...but if help! was written after that first time they did acid, then yes, that is part of the meaning of the song.

If you've ever done acid...or have after been addicted to it (like I was after the first time...and like the Beatles obviously)...then you can begin to see the references in all the psychedelic period albums, mainly sgt. peppers.

I would also see lsd as part of their journey towards eastern spirituality. ..because that stuff jus t makes sense on acid.
