there's a field of flowers, and they smell like you
and i go walking through them
well, if you remember me
you know i'd love to pick one, for my lapel
but you know, there's too many insects watching
i'm afraid they'll tell on me

and here the skies another day, no a night
in this place where i close my eyes
it's like my skin to try so hard to hold it back
there's an explosion it comes raining down
you smiled, you smiled at me

anastasia, you're disappearance is the thorn in my side
anastasia, you know your absence is the thorn in my side

i think about you every night and every day
every moment sence you left here
you were the one that got away
as they say, everyone has an anastasia

anastasia, you're disappearance is the thorn in my side
anastasia, you know your absence is the thorn in my side

i kept your room just how you left it
there's not a toy out of sight
just in case the fates are kind
and you come back to me
i don't wanna live without my little anastasia

anastasia, you're disappearance is the thorn in my side
little anastasia, you know you're absence is the thorn in my side
little anastasia, you're disappearance is the thorn in my side
little anastasia, and only you can take the thorn from my side.

    Song Meaning

I personally asked Voltaire who the song was about in his last show at Webster Hall. He said it was about the daughter of a Russian Czar who went missing named Anastasia but, in his own imagination he wrote the song in the perspective of the father and the rest of the family being dead and existing in another realm where they don't have Anastasia because she hasn't died yet which would explain the very abstract metaphors. Since Anastasia was the youngest of the Russian Family, it would make sense if all the other members died of old age and were waiting for their daughter that went missing to die as well so they can all reunite in the other "plane of existence" where spirits live after death.

By saying everyone has an Anastasia, he's saying that everyone has someone who will miss them after their death, who would also be soon reunited in the afterlife.

These are the actual song lyrics meaning, not my interpretation.

It is likely a song about having loved and lost using the disappearance of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia as an analogy. To learn more, see wikipedia.

The lyrics are a few words wrong.

But, this is such a sweet and sad song! Brilliantly written. Again, Voltaire hits that soft spot on our hearts. And he does it with such persision...

This is supposed to be like a ballad. Voltaire is playing Joseph (anastasias father, I think) and making this sad song because when Russia was invaded, Anastasia disappeared

Acxtually Ana Dee, I think this is a story of someone leaving and the main person of the song not know where s/he went. There aren;t enough Russia references for it to abusally be about Anastasia. And her father was Nicolas. Sorry Im a russian history major.

My personal favorite line is "Everyone has an Anastasia" Therefore saying everyone has someone/thing that left them and will never return. So touching

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
