Sitting in the morning sun
I'll be sitting when the evening comes
Watching the ships roll in
And I watch 'em roll away again
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time
I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I had nothin' to live for
And look like nothing's gonna come my way
So I'm just
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time
Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time
I'll be sitting when the evening comes
Watching the ships roll in
And I watch 'em roll away again
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time
I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I had nothin' to live for
And look like nothing's gonna come my way
So I'm just
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time
Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home
Now, I'm just
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sitting on the dock of the bay
Wasting time

Kinda puts a different tilt on things
Where did I come from? How did I get here? And where am I going from here? seems to be the idea. I mean, he may be sitting there reflecting and doing nothing at the moment, but docks are either for coming or going. You're always doing one or the other.
It's eerie and special in another way, since Otis Redding died soon after recording it. Even though the whistling was meant just as a fill until he came up with the last verse, I really like it as a part of the song.
It's advice supercedeing all others: "That really sucks Fro, but you just have to keep Fro'n along"
This song is me, my future, and everthing in between. Sooths me into sleep and keeps my feet when i am running away from everything.
If you can't tell it's my favorite song and I'm not sure what I would do if it wasn't in my head.
