All last summer in case you don't recall
I was your and you were mine forget it all
Is there a line that I could write
Sad enough to make you cry
All the lines you wrote to me were lies
The months roll past the love that you struck dead
Did you love me? Only in my head.
Things you said and did to me
Seemed to come so easily
The love I thought I'd won you give for free

Whispers at the bus stop
Well I heard about nights at the school yard
I found out about you

Rumours follow everywhere you go
And when you left I was last to know
You're famous now and there's no doubt
In all the places you hang out
They know your name and know what you're about

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you

Street lights blink on through the car window
I get the time too often on AM radio
You know it's all I think about
I write your name drive past your house
Your boyfriend's over I watch your lights go out

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you

I think it's about a stalker. The last verse makes that clear ("it's all I think about / I write your name, drive past your house"), and if you read the first part of the song in that light I think maybe the whole, what he talks about like a real relationship, was "only in his head" (as the lyrics say). Some stalkers believe they had a close relationship with their victim, when in fact it was, at most, just politeness or friendliness from the victim's point of view. I think this guy blew an acquaintance or friendship way out of proportion and now is obsessed with the girl and trying to justify his behavior.

"His then-girlfriend had left him, left him with a black eye. She had cheated on him and sucker-punched his face in the lobby of a downtown venue after an REM show. Those lines 'I write your name/Drive past your house/Your boyfriend's over/I watch the lights go out'... he lived that. You could read his depression as clearly as his words. He was wrecked by drink and heartbreak. Big dark circles under his eyes. His parents had intervened; got him help. But it didn't help much.

He strummed carefully on a Gibson electric that wasn't plugged in because the pawn shop had his amp. Lyrics were neatly arranged chicken scratches on the back of a crumpled show flier.

He stopped. "This won't make any sense without the bassline." So he plucked out the bass part. "The droning fifth on the pre-chorus will make the singer sound like God," he said. He stopped again because he was so proud of the "AM radio" reference in the lyric. He repeated it."

I think the guy is just telling his ex that he knows she was messin around on him and stuff but he was too into the relationship to see it then. Its a great song.

this is really weird because I haven't actually heard the song, but I was just looking for gin blossoms lyrics. This song really hit home because I recently broke up with someone who's now going onto be famous n stuff, and last summer was like the peak of our relationship but in retrospect I see all the lies and self-dillusions. So this song is pretty perfect for what I'm going through :P

what a beautiful way to let out the sorrow and anger felt after finding out your girlfriend was a cheating whore. found out about you is about a summer love that the guy thought was much more. she meant everything to him and he's shocked that she didn't feel the same way. but to her, he was just another notch in the post. after the break up, the guy becomes obsessed with her and obviously spends many hours wondering how he didn't notice her promiscutiy.

Well jstagrl22 i guess you owe me a million dollars..... The song was actually written by Doug Hopkins who was the bands guitarist up until the recorded the CD that this song was on. He was fired due to problems with alcohol and depression. The band did not want to lose their label deal so they decided to kick him out. He also wrote Hey Jealousy and Until I Fall Away. But it really does not matter 'cause he took his own life in late 1993.

its about a guy who suffered the loss of what might have been mostly in his head as he puts all of his eggs in one basket for whatever reason instead of taking the time to really get to know a little about someone before jumping in both feet. Its why dating is important and its also why dating more than one person is a healthy (not saying rolling in the sack.. i.e. not advocating promiscuity) way to find someone special to have a long term relationship with. Doug Hopkins was a genius musician and song writer but despite that he was in fact miserable sob too. He totally went on self destruct and sabotage mode just at the absolute perfect time to completely destroy all that he and his band mates had worked all those years for, and naturally and quite understandable his band mates said F that Sh!t dude …you gotta go! bcuz of the very real threat of having a major record label legal team on their asses with major litigation they did the right thing and let him go. Back to this song tho… I did the same thing when i had moved to a big city and thru the web was contacted by an old girlfriend from my high school days who was surprisingly living in the same city and was single and was mutually interested. Long story short: I completely lost myself in her and all the strange but (what seemed) wonder of it all that we would reunite after so many years in a city far away from where we grew up… it seemed TOO good to be true… and as it turned, out it was. Very unstable and was the perfect set up for one person completely getting smashed and the other having an relatively easy exit from what became sort of a ship wreck. i played the fool role and went completely to pieces emotionally …it really is like going from being on an luxury liner cruse-destined to paradise, to suddenly being on a makeshift life raft of sorts in the middle of the sea totally alone… such betrayal, disappointment and heartache had no chance of ever permeating my foolish mind in any other way before that happened and if you can make it thru alive… it forever changes you. I listened to this song recently as it came on my iTunes shuffle and it still brings tears to my eyes but not so much for my own sorrow but because i know what doug Hopkins went thru and he portrays the defeat so accurately in the lyrics and also what ultimately happened to him ..

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
