  General Comment:The only way this could be about racism would be if he actually with the 'my land'-part refers to an actual nation, and if the kevlar is a symbol for the fear of what you don't know, of a different cultur expanding within your own safe borders. I think that's a good description of how some people against immigration feel.
  This said, I do not share these thoughts and feelings, I'm simply trying to figure the lyrics out together with the possibility of them being about racism. Considering how surreal many of Kent's lyrics are, especially the originals, I wouldn't be surprised if they left it open for interpretation :)

  General Comment:For me this version just can't compare to the Swedish version, sadly. The English version just feels less, well, touching. Rough translation of the chorus from the Swedish version:
  
  "As long as my heart still beats
  I'll remember you when
  You pierced a hole through my kevlar soul
  And you became my wound
  and I'm bleeding to death
  Come, make a hole in my kevlar soul"
  
  
  The English lyrics are - as always with Kent - quite different though, and in this case the whole 'hope' part of the song seems to have been lost:
  
  As far as I can tell the song is about him shutting people out so as to not get hurt ("my kevlar soul"), but this girl still managed to get close to him ("She put a hole, through my kevlar soul", "My land is your land we are free"), and after the pain of their eventual breakup ("and my heart slowly dies / It gets lonely and cold") he shuts himself again ("My land is my land only mine"), but he's still grateful to have met her (this is the part that seems to be missing from the English version, but check the Swedish chorus).
  
  
  I don't see how this would really have anything to do with racism though.

  General Comment:Kevlar is a material used to make bulletproof vests... what a great comparison. In any case, this song's pretty straightforward. Not much to analyze in depth, just a sad, lovely song. The lines "I have time on my side, making diamonds of coal" in particular are wonderful. I don't know if that's what was said in the Swedish version... if not, those are awesome lines to find in a translation.
