Here's a tale of Tom
Who worked the railroads long
His wife would cook his meal
As he would change the wheel

Poor Tom, seventh son,
Always knew what's goin on
Ain't a thing that you can hide from Tom
There ain't nothing that you can hide from Tom

Worked for thirty years
Sharing hopes and fears
Dreamin' of the day
He could turn and say

Poor Tom, work's done,
Been lazin' out in the noonday sun

Ain't a thing that you can hide from Tom

His wife was Annie Mae
With any man a game she'd play
When Tom was out of town
She couldn't keep her dress down

Poor Tom, seventh son,
Always knew what's goin on

Ain't a thing that you can hide from Tom

And so it was one day
People got to Annie Mae (?)
Tom stood, a gun in his hand
And stopped her runnin' around

Poor Tom, seventh son,
Gotta die for what you've done

All those years of work are thrown away
To ease your mind is that all you can say?

But what about that grandson on your knee?
Them railroad songs, Tom would sing to me

Ain't nothing that you can hide from Tom

Keep-a Truckin'

General Comment:I always thought that the speaker is singing a song about their grandfather. When he says "What about that grandson on your knee? Them railroad songs, Tom would sing to me" I always thought he meant he's singing railroad songs to his grandson. I don't know.. Just a thought.

General Comment:I'm going to guess that the grandson on Tom's knee line, is refering to who the speaker of the song is (yes, I know its not poetry, but it seems aplicable here). This would have been an amazing additition to Led Zeppelin III, i think. Its feel reminds me of Bron-Y-Aur Stomps's, and I would have loved to hear this before or after that song. But going to the song its self.
The drum beat is quite entrancing for me, the 16th note pattern played on the snare drum adds to the over vibe of the song, its eaisly in my top 10 Led Zeppelin favorite songs.

General Comment:I love how the guitar comes in right after the "Poor Tom..." line. I thought Ramthar's comment was interesting. However, I don't exactly understand the lyric about the grandson on Tom's knee. Does anybody know what it means?

General Comment:i definetely agree with the first comment also that makes perfect sense and goes with the zeppelin folklore mark. the reason this drum beat is so notable is because the snare is set on sixteenth notes throughout throughout the entire song. and i love this beat it rocks!!!!!!!!! its so hard to play too i would love to learn it.

General Comment:good call, BrokenShadow. why is it always annie?
yeah, the drum part for this is pretty cool, but really repetitive. I like the railroad feel. obvious meaning, but great song. I like the first comment, the seventh son thing, that's a good catch.

General Comment:Yea, you said it wonderfully hangwire. Lot of not so good songs, but great ones. Like this. This song would have fit Led Zeppelin III amazingly too. I love this song. The drums are awsome, the lyrics are awsome, the guitar is awsome, the vocals are awsome. The very first time I heard it and from now on for some reason if reminds of like... Mississippi.. like Tom Sawyer, maybe because its poor TOM, but I dunno

General Comment:Love this song--God only knows why this didnt make the cut for III. One of my faves on CODA (which IS spotty, but has a few gems...)
