Lyrics for Hot Dog as interpreted by kevin

Hot Dog Lyrics
Well I just got into town today
To find my girl who's gone away
She took the Greyhound at the General Store
I searched myself I searched the town
When I finally did sit down
I find myself no wiser than before

She said we couldn't do no wrong
No other love could be so strong
She locked up my heart in her bottom drawer
Now she took my heart she took my keys
From in my old blue dungarees
And I'll never go to Texas anymore

* Chorus: Now my baby's gone I don't know what to do
She took my love and walked right out the door
And if I ever find that girl I know one thing for sure
I'm gonna give her something like she never had before

I took her love at seventeen
A little late these days it seems
But they said heaven is well worth waiting for
I took her word I took it all
Beneath the sign that said "U-haul"
She left angels hangin round for more

Chorus

I thought I had it all sewn up
Our love, a plot, a pick-up truck
But folks said she was after something more
I never did quite understand
All that talk about rockin' bands
But they just rolled my doll right out the door
Oh yeah, they just rolled my doll right out the door!

the song is "about" an American girl that broke up with Plant, but the purpose of the song is more to make some wry remarks and take a few jabs at Americas and American culture. the title for one is of course an American delicacy, then he goes on to talk about Greyhounds and General Stores and blue dungarees and Texas and Uhauls and pick-up trucks and other somewhat stereotypical American items.

i agree with ramthar all the way. i mean, just the music of the sound is country sounding, it definetly is the strangest sounding zeppelin song ive ever heard, it just doesnt fit in w/ all their others, but they probably meant it that way.

i love the song... one of the things that i like the most about LED ZEPPELIN is the variety of music styles they use while playing.. this is an obvious country song but LED ZEPPELIN makes it be more than a simple country song... in the case i dont agree with you guys about the song as being bad or terrible... and it does fit zeppelin's style 'cause that's what make them special, THEIR VARIETY.. (ie. dyer maker - carouselambra - stairway to heaven - bron-y-aur stomp....)

thanks ToOlHoLiO...I must agree wit hyou here....That's why this band is great......As a musician I couldn't bear to do the same sound over and over.....It works for some shitty bands.....ok there not bands....ex. Lincoln Park...hehe....There is originality and genuine creativity here.....You can't knock Zeppelin, dude.....They bounce right back.....It's a very amusing song to say the least... ;)

It is just a "spoof" of heavy country music performed by a hard rocking band...the opposite end of the spectrum from country music. Another great tune...there are no bad songs from Led Zeppelin.

I heard that Jimmy was pretending to play as though it was his first time out on a guitar. It is one of my favourite zeppelin songs and is just wonderful. Love the vocal approach by Robert

It was said that after one very late night and heavy drinking, Jimmy Page woke up with Robert Plants "hot dog" in his mouth. This started a rift that the band never recovered from. Such a shame, great song.

Mmkay, three years later, going back to the first comment, alot of southerners yell HOT DOG when something good happens. It's like the cool way to say yeehaw.

So that's where that came from. =/

Hot Dog is my least favourite Led Zeppelin song but I can find some positive that came out of this song. I honestly think it is a spoof of a country song and if there were a music video, a Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag would be very appropriate. As well, as true Zeppelin fans can notice, that it was not there high point, its still shows how willing they were to try out different styles and they were not afraid of failing. No band can come out with only hit songs unless they are a bunch of sell-outs who release one single such as The Darkness. Yes this song is not a Stairway to Heaven, but it really shows that Led Zeppelin is such a great band, because Hot Dog for many bands would be a comparatively good song.

All of you naysayers, this is a great song about life on the road as Led Leppelin. Stealing other peoples women (OPP) is a hobby. Bored TX girl (insert small town here) runs off with rock star, leaving overly confident 3a kicker football star in the dust

i try to listen to all music, and this is sort of like a country/hodown and almost like a bluegrass/blues feel but not really. i love this song, i love the intro and the courus, this is the kind of stuff plant loved. zeppelin has a wide veriety of music and this is yet another one of those songs, its great, i love it.
