Lyrics for For Your Life as interpreted by kevin

For Your Life Lyrics
You said I was the only, With my lemon in your hand
Exhibition is your habit, Emotion second hand.
Had to pull away to save me, Maybe next time around
And she said, 'don't you want it?
Don't you want cocaine-cocaine-cocaine
Hadn't planned to, could not stand to try it, fry it, na na na yeah.

Heard a cry for mercy, In the city of the damned
Oh oh babe, damned. Down in the pits you go no lower
The next stop's underground. Oh, hello underground.
Wine and roses ain't quite over, fate deals a losing hand
And I said: didn't mean to... did not mean to fail
You didn't plan it, you over-ran it

You wanna do it, you wanna
You wanna do it when you wanna
You wanna do it, do it when you wanna

When you blow it, babe, You got to blow it right
Oh baby, if you fake it, mama, Baby, fake with all your might
When you fake it, mama, Please fake it right (for yourself babe)

When you fake it baby,
You're fakin' it for your life, for your life, for your life, for your life
Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, Do it when you wanna
Do it, do it, do it, Do it when you wanna

Oh, I can have you, baby, But I don't know what to do, yeah
Sometime, baby, nothin' I could do
On the balance of a crystal, Payin' through the nose
And when they couldn't resist you, I thought you'd go with the flow.

And now your stage is empty, bring down the curtain, baby please.
Fold up your show
Hadn't planned to, Could not stand to fry in it
Hadn't planned it, I over-ran it, (fryin)
For your life, For your life.

This song is most likely about doing cocaine. Maybe about peer pressure to do it.

The cocaine reference was not lost on me, and the images of an early death are apparant as well ("Wine and Roses ain't quitre over, Fate deals a losing hand").
More than enough to (A) make me not do drugs, and (B) Learn to play guitar.

to roadrunner99....crowley was just a phony intellectual who gave everybody what they wanted to hear. doesn't make it the right path to follow.

great song, one the better lesser tracks on presence. I love the bridge, musically and lyrically. more about peer pressure, but also about sex, drugs, and rock & roll!!

There's much much more to this than just a drug aspect. Unfortunately, '75 was very, shall we say, "snowy" for some band members. But when he references "when you blow it..." it's more like a quetion of the intentions of a, to put it bluntly, coke whore. We can guess what he means by the "blow it" phrase, but it's the sadness of doing anything for...it.

One of my favourite tracks from "Presence"... I knew it was about coke but I was never able to pin down the exact lyrics (Plant was singing whilst in a wheelchair when the album was being recorded). A thank you to kevin for spelling it all out... it makes perfect sense now. Zeppelin first played this tune live at the Dec. 10/07 reunion concert at the O2 in London... and NAILED IT. I always find it amazing how Page can make one guitar sound like two on the bridge! Can you say "Magick"?

This is such a good song, how are there only 13 comments?! One of the best from Presence, right up there with Achilles Last Stand. I heard that this song is about a friend of Plant's who got into drugs

You can hear a snorting sound in this one at about the 5 and a half minute mark. But this song isn't just about Coke. But I think that's a large part of it.

The word "cocaine" is never mentioned in this song. The actual line is:

"Don't you wanna cook it...cook it...cook it?"

Listen carefully. It's very clear.

This is probably my favorite zeppelin song...but it changes The guitar, the singing really fit the lyrics. BTW, at the O2 plant said cocaine.

This song is completely about cocaine addiction. Go read Hammer of the Gods. Robert Plant wrote this song talking about his and the bands' struggle to get off of cocaine.

Musically this is my very very very favorite Led Zep song. I just love the catchy hooks in it. The first time I heard this song I was just floored.

I do believe it is dealing with drug addiction but this song could be explaining how to program your DVR and it would still rock!!!
