Lyrics for C'Etait Toi (You Were The One) as interpreted by fletch699

C'Etait Toi (You Were The One) Lyrics
Here I am again
In this smoky place
With my brandy eyes
I'm talking to myself
You were the one
You were the one

Here I go again
Looking for your face
And I realize
That I should look for someone else
But you were the one
You were the one

I'm looking for comfort
That I can take
From someone else
But after all
I know there is no one
That can save me from myself
You were the only one

Me revoici
Dans ce bar enfume
Avec mes yeux iures
Je me parle a moi meme
C'etait toi
C'etait toi

Me revoici
Cherchant ton visage
Et je realise
Que je devrais en chercher une autre
C'etait toi
You were the one

Je recherche l'affection
Qu'une autre pourrait me donner
Mais apres tout
Je sais qu'il n'y a personne
Personne qui puisse me sauver
Tu etais la seule

I'm looking for comfort
That I can take
From someone else
But after all
I know there is no one
That can save me, save me from myself
You were the only one

It's not that difficult. The French part is the same as the first three verses. Il n'est pas celui difficile. La partie française est identique aux trois premiers vers.

Yeah, but it's still fun to know by your own merit. ;-) I like this song cuz it's so romantic; also hearing Billy Joel sing in French with his New York accent is funny.

I was told years ago by an actual French person that the french lines were in the feminine context. I don't know for sure but perhaps it is meant as a response. I also heard Billy say in an interview that he hated that song.

I asked a French exchange student years ago about this song. She told me that the French verse was in the feminine. Maybe it is meant as a response from a woman? I also heard Billy say in an interview that it was one of his least favorite songs.
