From the window of your rented limousine,
I saw your pretty blue eyes
One day soon you're gonna reach sixteen,
Painted lady in the city of lies.

Oh, do you know my name?
Do I look the same
You know I'm the one you want.
I must be the one you need, yeah

Clutching pages from your teenage dream
In the lobby of the Hotel Paradise
Through the circus of the L.A. queens.
How fast your learn the downhill side

Oh, do you know my name?
Do I look the same
You know I'm the one you want.
I must be the one you need,.

Lips like cherries and the brow of a queen,
Come on, flash it in my eyes
Said you dug me since you were thirteen,
Then you giggle as you heave and sigh.

Oh, do you know my name?
Do I look the same
You know I'm the one you want.
I must be the one you need.

Hours, hours, and the moments in between,
Oh, baby, I couldn't count the times
The fun of comin', oh the pain in leavin',
Baby, dry those silver eyes

Oh, do you know my name?
Do I look the same
You know I'm the one you want.
I must be the one you need,

Ooh, that's right.

This song was written by Robert Plant about teenage groupies, or as he called them, the "L.A. Queens", with whom the band were acquainted on their 1973 US Tour.[1] He took pity upon these girls who would flock to the hotel rooms of the band to offer them favors. In an interview he gave in 1975, he provided an explanation of the lyrics:

If you listen to "Sick Again," a track from Physical Graffiti, the words show I feel a bit sorry for [the girls]. "Clutchin pages from your teenage dream in the lobby of the Hotel Paradise/Through the circus of the L.A. Queen how fast you learn the downhill slide." One minute she's 12 and the next minute she's 13 and over the top. Such a shame. They haven't got the style that they had in the old days... way back in '68.

My Opinion:In the book "Tight but loose" Plant in his depressive state in Malibu gave rise to the venomous theme of 'For your life'. "That was a bitter treaty with rock'n'roll." He commented later. "The girls who in 'Sick Again' had been wonderful were now suddenly... well they were hung on the balance of a crystal paying through the nose."

My Interpretation:naive guitar motive cool! yea lot of irony, depends on how much you like Led and how unbiased you are willing to be. It could just be a crack at society for their angry or trickster amusement. did they give a shit back then (with drugs in the system, especially if Heroin)? You probably see beyond age when you're on that shit. Haven't tried it, but I'm sure you would think 2-3 years wouldn't make a difference. who knows if they, probably not if they "made girls put octupi in their virginas".

I don't understand why it's the album closure song thought; sonmeone care to explain?

And "Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same?", does sound very feignish, a now-a-crack-head thing to say! And if they wrote that finding it amuzing ...; well i guess it could go both ways.

Negative Mind, maybe destructive. negativity is weak so it must be destructive. ohey so gay. jawlekfjwefj

It's clearly about underaged girls, sex and drugs...

I like the fact that during that mocking line:
"Oh, do you know my name? Do I look the same?"
Pagey plays very naive guitar motive ;) Pure irony.

General Comment:Well, Its oviously about jimmy page and lori maddox. i think it is because he met her when she was 13 or 14 "you dug me since you were thirteen" and it doesnt matter if plant wrote it. he could be writting it about jimmy. and at first, lori didnt wanna be with jimmy maybe refering to "Do I look the same
You know I'm the one you want" and jimmy did meet lori in LA also refering to "La Queen". after jimmy broke up with her for Bebe Buell, lori was never the same. and devistated."Baby, dry those silver eyes"
so its probibly about jimmy and maddox. well thats what i think anyways.

General Comment:Sounds like groupies or even street whores-- "painted ladies". Personally, I think Robert Plant is bi so "L.A. queens" might be about gay guys or trannies. Other than that, the only thing certain is they're young and he's mocking them, and all the while he's banging them:

"Oh, baby, I couldn't count the times
the fun of comin', oh the pain in leavin', Baby, dry those silver eyes "

"Do you know my name, do I look the same"-- it sounds like that's the groupie talking and he's mocking their desperation.

Zep is kind of gross, huh? I love their music but that all sounds so sleazy and pitiful...

General Comment:"you know I'm the one you want....I must be the one you need" is Plant mocking the over the top obsession that the young groupies display...

When I first started learning the lyrics to this song I was totally "WTF?...is he nailing 13 yr olds?" Then I caught the sarcasim in the lyrics and was just "wow.."

Robert Plant FTW!!! Jimmy Page just shreads this song....
