Lyrics for Kashmir as interpreted by kevin

Kashmir Lyrics
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face
Stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace
Whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear

Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin'
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon
I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June
When movin' through Kashmir

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails
Across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there

Let me take you there. Let me take you there

Man no one has even hit on one of the interpretations of this song. In my years I've been told several times of the inspiration for this song, their travels in Africa. However theres undertones in there I was always curious about. So asking around my music buffs one came to me and told me what he apparently "knew" of the song.

He told me that in their travels in Africa an elder of one of the tribes, spoke to them, pointing southeastward, towards the indian ocean. He spoke of a legend about an Island which appears once every 100 years for 6 minutes I think it is? Its a lush island, beautiful, remaniscant of how beautiful the desert area used to be. It appears in a different spot around the globe every time, but if you can pinpoint where it will be the time is arrives and get on it before it dissapears, you will live forever in the island paradise. , that is if you survive the violent dissapearing. Well theres my input, dont flame please =D

faenor10, I believe you are referring to the Legend of Lemuria. This was an island in the southern ocean that existed in extremely ancient times, and even pre-dates Atlantis. That's an interesting take on the lyrics... because it should be noticed that, although the title of the track is "Kashmir", Plant only mentions Kashmir in an off-handed way when he sings "Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir...". So, MAYBE, the narrator is PRESENTLY in Kashmir, but wishes to sail "across the sea of years" to ancient LEMURIA. Worth thinking about. Thanks for sharing that!

I think they parodied the ledgend in one of the aladin movies. Like, a turtle or something. *is so lame* I vote for the "Things I thought of while high" interpretation of the song. This song has the feel of a very out-of-body road trip. meh. *plays violin riff while inhaling mass quantitys of drugs*

this song is fucking brilliant.

i think when this song was written that it was trying to look in the prospective of satan. if you have any biblical knowledge you will understand.

"Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been" - speaking of his age and experience.

"To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed" - this is clearely stating of the end times
"Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate",- christianity belives in a language known as " tongues" which they believe satan hates and cannot understand.

"All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land" - after the "tribulation" time satan will be thrown in the lake of fire.. destoyed.. and he is referred also in the bible as the prince of the air.
"Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years"- here i believe he is referring to satan as well.

If I remember correctly the music of Kashmir can be heard in the movie Bad Luetenant with Harvey Keital. I'm pretty sure that during the movie some guy starts blatantly cursing (rapping): "I'm Gonna Kick Your MotherF**king Ass!" type words while the main riff of Kashmir is played. Anybody remember this?

Haha. I am loving everyone who is aruging on the first two pages.
I personally agree with Cherub and the Tolkien references. But what does it even matter? This is the greatest Zeppelin song ever, the end.

Funny how everyone looks for a hidden meaning in this beautiful song. Plant has mentioned several times in the past how the song doesn't really mean anything. He was just trying to come up with lyrics/vocals to accompany the incredible music in the song. This style of creating music plagued other incredible songs in the Zep discography, most notably "No Quarter".

Same thing with the classic Beatles song "Come Together". Its a damn good song, but the song means nothing.

OKay boys and girls...the meaning of this song is "Quiet Clear". It is simply relating to Pages travels through Kashmir....those were stated by Page himself. And I will add that is is one of Zeps best...I can't say it's my favorite as I have no favorite from Zep....there all just to damn good...but it is in my top 5.

Sexual? Are you out of your mind? This song is about astral travel. "Pilot of the storm that leaves no trace" - astral travel takes place in a self-induced energy vortex, or a 'storm' if you will. Kashmir is where adepts of very ancient systems of yoga and meditation reside and practice to this day. Perhaps Plant learned with them, or is just singing an homage. The second and third lines talk about the 'watchers' (angels, annunaki, nephilim, etc...) who are present and watching for the return of the golden age, when astral travel will be common. We are currently leaving the kali yuga, or dark age, and entering the dvapara yuga, beginning the cyclical ascent to global enlightenment again (last time was about 35000 years ago). "All will be revealed"....

I'm sick of seeing EVERY TUNE ON THIS WEBSITE talked about as being about being stoned. You are losers - go get stoned and shut up already. Even people who DO get stoned don't think about it that much. Cripes. Consider that the people who write songs might actually HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY TO YOU.

the song is about when they were traveling in africa, and either robert plant or jimmy page was thinking that kashmir was somewhere near where they were. they thought it was a desert-like place, when it really actually isn't.

I don't give a shit if this song is not related to drugs or if the band members didn't do drugs.

It's still an amazing song to listen to when you're stoned.
