Lyrics for Kashmir as interpreted by kevin

Kashmir Lyrics
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face
Stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace
Whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear

Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin'
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon
I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June
When movin' through Kashmir

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails
Across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
Along the straits of fear

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there

Let me take you there. Let me take you there

No shit Kashmir is in india Pri420. But the fact remains that Plant and Page were inspired to write this song while they were traveling in northern AFRICA!
P.S. Great Song!

God damn what is with peoples obsession with pot and getting stoned? Is it not possible to write songs about things other than pot? Obviously not...

Alright...it is well known that plant smoked a great deal of weed (there are pictures of him from the 60s marching in protests to legalize weed in England). And page has been arrested twice for possession of cocaine. By the time Presence was released in '76 Page was strung out on coke. As for the other two, it's less clear.....anyway, it is very likely that on their trips through Africa, the Middle East and India that they were on a shitload of drugs.

The use of strings in the second half work really well together with the rest of the music. I believe the meaning of the song has been explained well already.

I am shamed by how many ignorant and puerile comments on these pages.

FACTS:
=====

1. Kashmir is NOT in Africa, it is in India, North-West to be exact.

2. It is NOT a town or city, it is a region or more correctly, a state. Officially 'Jammu and Kashmir', the capital is Srinagar.

3. Ownership of the area has been in dispute between India & Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. (Independance)

4. It IS near the Himalayas which are mostly in China, Nepal, Bhutan and partly in India. The region is mostly mountainous, The Zaskar Mountains and Panjal Range as well as part of the Ladakh Range and Karakoram Range to the North.

5. Kashmir is also a type of fine wool that obviously comes from the sheep that are in the region.

6. Kashmir was originally titled "Driving to Kashmir"

7. It was written while on the road from Goulimine to Tantan in south Morocco (Spanish Sahara).

8. The inspiration for the lyrics came from the fact that the road went on and on with sandrock ridges two miles to the east and west of the road.

9. It is one of Plant's favourites together with 'In The Light'

10. The surviving members all consider Kashmir to be _the_ quitessential Led Zeppelin.

it definitely has something to do with lord of the rings, bonham even said so. Regardless, its a fuckin great song, only a drummer could make it this rythmic.

an overrated song by an overrated band. Its still good, but not as good as some say.. Some parts drag on and get a lil boring. Anyway i think its about a magical adventure the band took while stoned out of their asses.

Robert wrote this driving through a desert in the middle east.
Has been copied and used by many rap artists, proves they can not write music like they used to.
This is got to be one of the greatest songs ever, I have been lucky enough to see them live and it is mind blowing.
The proof of it's appeal is my nieces and my own kids love it, that covers 3 generations, need I say more.

India and Pakistan havent been fighting for hundreds of years over Kasmir since Pakistan technically came into existence only on 15 August 1947. And Kashmir is DEFINITELY in India, and I would know because I live in India. Also ever since i heard this song, i've wanted to visit kashmir thought i know that the song isnt abt the place... anyway thats not too likeliy sice theres lots of terrorism and al qaeda training camps there and civilians are getting killed everyday... so in a sense the song is true for this place too, it was once a 'shangrila beneath the summer moon' and now its 'all i see turns to brown' anyway the best song aver written by a great band and SOOOO much more worth listening to than Stairway to Heaven (which is good but not half as good as this one) Incidentally, why is the song called kasmir?
