Lyrics for Dancing Days as interpreted by kevin

Dancing Days Lyrics
Dancing days are here again as the summer evenings grow
I got my flower, I got my power, I got a woman who knows.

*CHORUS
I said it's alright. You know it's alright - I guess it's all in my heart

You'll be my only, my one and only. Is that the way it should start?

Crazy ways are evident, In the way that you're wearing your clothes
Sippin'' booze is precedent as the evening starts to glow.

CHORUS

I told your mamma I'd get you home but I didn't tell her I had no car
I saw a lion he was standing alone with a tadpole in a jar.

CHORUS

Dancing days are here again as the summer evening grows
You are my flower, you are my power
You are my woman who knows.

CHORUS

Reject the rest of the world, don't have problems. Dance, rebellion through hedonism. Perhaps a little more innocent, considering when it was written. But that one girl who takes you out of the crap and gives you to yourself instead. she is worth it all, and those goodtimes, the dancing days are priceless

I think this song was meant to capture the lazy relaxation of a warm summer night. It's a song that embodies catching fireflies in the evening light and sittin on the porch with a guitar to play. Life is good at the end of a hot summer day.

"I saw a lion he was standing alone with a tadpole in a jar. "

what the hell does that line mean...or is that just what comes out when you take drugs?

The only reasonable explanation I've heard for that line is that the lion is a blonde kid with a tadpole in jar, haven't we all done that at some point during our childhood summers?

I'm kinda wondering how this song as well as over the hills and far away and the ocean are on how the west was one? Those concerts were recorded in the summer of 1972, and houses of the holy, the album in which all of these songs are on, was released in late 1973. How does that add up? If anyone has some sort of insight to this feel free to answer

if you listen to Robert Plant, more than once he says "this is a song from our new album" (or words to that effect) throught the time they where playing those songs.

Maybe they got someone pregnant on tour or something. He is assuring the womanher that everything is okay and asking if they are supposed to be together, then the tadpole in the jar sounds like it could relate to pregnancy, especially because zep makes uses the jar reference a lot in their lyrics to allude to a woman...

Best I can do is this...
He is getting the blame for the girl's wild behavior by the girl's parents...the lion is the girls father, the tadpole in the jar is him. In other words, he is at the mercy of the girl's father. The girl is getting wild and the father blames this on the guy she is dating. Dancing Days are here again to me means the summer months when the girl is out of school and life is about going out and partying, etc. My 2 cents.

" It's about summertime and good things " says robert Plant. SImple but oh so pure in rock and roll.

I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan, and I like them alot better than Stone Temple Pilots, but STP's version of this song is better. Weilands voice goes better with the music than Plants. Still an awesome song though.

it's about rebellion...perhaps of youth. it captures the summer spirit of being adventurous. i agree the "lion standing alone" was a reference to being caught by parents. i like to listen to this on a summer evening before a date!

yay! my first post! anyway...
Yeah, Artsy's right about what Plant said...from How the West was Won...
still not sure about the Lion--Tadpole in a Jar thing...think it's awesome though, just cause...well, it sounds random...
Crazy idea i had though: We know that there are plenty of LotR references in Zeppelin, but what about Narnia? the "lion" couldn't be Aslan, could it?
