Hey lady you got the love I need
Maybe more than enough
Oh darling walk a while with me
You've got so much

Many have I loved many times been bitten
Many times I've gazed along the open road.

Many times I've lied many times I've listened
Many times I've wondered how much there is to know.

Many dreams come true, and some have silver linings.
I live for my dream, and a pocketful of gold.

Mellow is the man who knows what he's been missing.
Many, many men can't see the open road.

Many is a word that only leaves you guessing.
Guessing 'bout a thing you really ought to know.
You really ought to know

General Comment:Over the Hills and Far Away is refering to England. Refering to England while being in America that is. Thats where England is to us in America, over the hills and far away.

General Comment:I think the "open road" is like a perspective. He starts speaking to of a women, one that may be the love of his life. (I say he, but I don't mean Page or Plant, he is an whoever. Or hell, maybe he is one of the two, but I don't know enough to be accurate.)
He then lists the things he's done and has been, in example: "Many have I loved - Many times been bitten" and "Many times I've lied - Many times I've listened"

He defines the concept of dreams and goals to himself, but then describes his own: that he lives for his dreams. I think his reference to a pocketful of gold doesn't refer to physical money but an abstract richness.
"Many dreams come true and some have silver linings
I live for my dream and a pocketful of gold. "

He says he's gazed upon the open road, it could be a reference to standing alone, finding his own independence. That he says some men have never experienced this could be seen offensive. Like he's found himself and doesn't need a women to define who he is, but some still haven't.

Lastly, he uses many as in "many". He repeats himself throughout the lyrics of the "many" things he's experienced. "Many is a word that only leaves you guessing" is just restating the mystery behind many. The many things you really ought to know are the things he's seen and done that were, I presume, good--or things he certainly doesn't resent.

Anyways, it's on my top three favorite Led Zeppelin songs. Ten Years Gone coming first, and Going to California following!

General Comment:this song is actually about living life to the fullest. he first talks about life experiences but then gets into the pursuit of knowledge and just being happy and living for your dreams. he explains how there's alot you don't know and never will, but that's okay. you should go through life enjoying it.

General Comment:wow so much hating...but in fairness zps2 you were being a tosser

I flipping love this song. My dad used to play it all the time when I was little so the opening riff is something I've grown up with. I love the way Zeppelin used acoustic guitars; the contrast with the heavy electrics is addictive. This is one of my go-to songs when I want to crank something really loud for my drive home from work.

General Comment:I think maybe he's refering to Bilbo in the Hobbit when he says "Mellow is the man who knows what he's been missing" because bilbo was kind of a duche about having adventures until Gandalf came.
