Lyrics for Stairway To Heaven as interpreted by kevin

Stairway To Heaven Lyrics
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

Jimmy Page said that if he could change one thing, he wouldn't have written this song. He says he hates it. While its not a bad song, it is definitely not their best. By far the most overrated song of all time.

They wrote it while high on morroco, the band said they really have no idea what the song was suppose to mean.

What Hendrix247 said is full of crap. This song was written by robert plant in front of his fire place, and Pagey, at his house (the one that once was owned by Alice Crowly). To figure out what this means you can start by listing to it backwards. From what i gatherd it is about HOPE, and THE MISLEADING POWERS OF SAITAN. Backmasked, on the track, over and over he says "satan, sweet satan. Whoe's path would make me so sad; and it was in that tool shed (page's house) he maid us suffer, SAD SATAN!!" If you mix this into the song it frequently talks about people being led, and the two paths (something common in the bible). I got the idea that it was about Hope from Robert plant himself. Before the song remains the same concert he says, "i think this is a sog about hope. If you like my theory, please e-mail me at: mgrant@ehshouston.org

i am the only person my age(16) that i know that has ever heard the song and i think it is great! i am not really sure what its supposed to be about but i have an idea that is similar to canofcoke01's about the 2 paths (heaven or hell) and the "piper" being Jesus, and the part "When all are one and one is all" that would be like the interworking of man and God. i dunno if this is a good theory but if u think its completely bogus thats fine wit me! overall i think it is a VERY good song...

A few things...Robert is the one who says that he hates the song, it's Alester Crowley, and I've been a HUGE Zeppelin fan for over 2 years and I'm 17. But anyway, no one really knows what the song is about and I think it's crazy to try to guess at it if the people who wrote it don't even know what it means. One thing I do know is that it isn't about how Zeppelin worsphipped Satan or any of that BS. It's one of those great songs that can mean many different things depending on the person.

I see quite a bit about the Lord of the Rings in this song. The Lady mentioned I believe is symbolic of the elven woman Galadriel, and she is trying to bring light to middle earth. One verse mentions 'looking to the west, and my spirit is crying for leaving,' which is most likely Frodo before his trip into Mordor, looking west towards the Shire one last time before the trials ahead...

Of course, there are probably 20 other things the band put in there while stoned and don't even realize themselves even now, this song is definitely one of the best, ever.

This is one of the greatest songs of all time...if not the best. To me this song is all about a person that thinks everything is good "Theres a lady who knows all that glitters is gold" and is just trying to make sure she goes to heaven when she dies. I agree with what musikfreak has to say about the religous aspect of everything. But he is not the only 16 year old to have heard the song, I am 16 myself and know many other 16 year olds that have heard the song and have their own view about it.
Ferthuko is definately an idiot if he thinks that this song is not Zeppelins best ever...it is the definitive Rock / Metal song EVER!

tictac...I would like to say this to you. The only reason why this song has been veiwed so many times is because it happens to be a very popular song. Now, I do not believe it is their best. Granted...it is a very good song. I enjoy it. I would, however, enjoy it more if people didn't go around raving completely about it all the time. This gets rather annoying. Also, the fact that it is one of the most requested songs ever, makes me not like it as much as I could. Because...I hear it over and over and over and over...and that is just plain annoying. It's like as bad as being trapped in an elevator with the little rinky dinky music all day. Just not fun.

I also am curious as to how many people who have posted here have listened to other Zeppelin songs, besides the cliche ones that everybody know. Really, it's like saying you are a die-hard Nirvana fan but the only song you really like is Smells Like Teen Spirit. Granted, I don't know Nirvana well, but I have heard some of their other stuff and by far Smells Like Teen Spirit is good but not the best.

I, for one, know all of Zeppelin's music, from "Stairway" to "Ten Years Gone" to "Carouselambra" to "How Many More Times" and all the rest. I can really call myself a die-hard fan.

StH is about the Teletubbies possessing the bodies of people that build escalators and taking over the world.
"All that glitters is gold" represents Tinky Winky and his purse.
