Lyrics for Black Dog as interpreted by kevin

Black Dog Lyrics
Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, way you shake that thing, gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way, watch your honey drip, can't keep away.

*Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah. Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.

I gotta roll, can't stand still, got a flame in my heart, can't get my fill.
Eyes that shine burning red, dreams of you all through my head.

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.

Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, Tell me won't you you do me now.

Didn't take too long 'fore I found out, what people mean my down and out.
Spent my money, took my car, started telling her friends she wants to be a star.
I don't know but I been told, a big-legged woman ain't got no soul.

* Chorus

All I ask for when I pray, steady rollin' woman gonna come my way.
Need a woman gonna hold my hand, won't tell me no lies, make me a happy man.

It's perhaps one of the top ten BEST rock songs of all time...especially when the riff is played by both guitars. It's like musical perfection...I can't help but think "Damn, why didn't I think of that?!" I love Zeppelin more every time I hear an old song...oh why did I have to be born in the 80s?

You guys are thinking too hard! This song is actually about two dogs in heat. Just listen to the lyrics.

IT'S TRUE - Check out the beginning intro of the song, before Plant starts singing. Page creates a "dog panting" sound with the guitar.. another reference to Plant relating to a 'Black Dog' in heat.

This song is without a doubt about SEX. Here's a quote by Robert Plant: "Not all my stuff is meant to be scrutinized. Things like 'Black Dog' are blatant, let's-do-it-in-the-bath type things, but they make their point just the same."

Oh, and about the time signiture thing - here's something else: Contains complicated time signatures arranged by Jones, which Bonham ignored, playing a steady 4/4 beat instead. Jones thinks that is what made it work.

Such a beautiful riff. I think this has got to be one of Led Zeppelin's most famous compositions. John Paul Jones's bass just rips through the song so smooth and Bonzo...'nuff said.

John Paul always looks upset, especially when on the keyboards. I don't know what this songs about, other then what has been said. It's just a cool song. When I was in Seattle we saw a Heart soundcheck and they played this song.

Maybe he is comparing himslef to a dog in heat, in the sense that he can't stop his sexual feelings..

you morons. any true led zeppeiln fan knows that a) yes its about sex and b) "black dog" has NOTHING to do with the lyrics. plant named it black dog after he saw a BLACK DOG hanging around the back of the recording studio. shame on you.

Simple story about a girl, like a lot of their songs. This one he was really attracted to, then she shut him down. Where he says "down and out" is where he gets rejected. And yes, the name has nothing at all to do with the the song, just like a good half of their songs. Moby Dick anyone?

A couple things I'd like to know about this song. What's he mean by 'big legged woman having no soul, and what is a 'steady rolling' woman? it seems like 'steady loving' woman would have worked better there.

Who knows what they were talkin' about. They were probably high when thry wrote it. They were high when they wrote stairway. Maybe the part about the steady rolling woman he is talkin' about a woman who lives life regularly. thank you

Maybe she was steady-rolling him joints ;) However, I do sort of share the same prayer. He uses the wheel symbol in several of his songs.. In The light (... and your will's sinkin low), Wanton Song (...and the wheel rolls on) I think your take on it is a good one.
