Lyrics for Black Dog as interpreted by kevin

Black Dog Lyrics
Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, way you shake that thing, gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way, watch your honey drip, can't keep away.

*Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah. Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.

I gotta roll, can't stand still, got a flame in my heart, can't get my fill.
Eyes that shine burning red, dreams of you all through my head.

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.

Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, Tell me won't you you do me now.

Didn't take too long 'fore I found out, what people mean my down and out.
Spent my money, took my car, started telling her friends she wants to be a star.
I don't know but I been told, a big-legged woman ain't got no soul.

* Chorus

All I ask for when I pray, steady rollin' woman gonna come my way.
Need a woman gonna hold my hand, won't tell me no lies, make me a happy man.

No matter what you do, no matter how you act, your going to become tired of your life, but at the same time your going to enjoy the world around you. Your life eventually becomes synonymous with a record. You get sick of it fast, but the words are always in your head, you always know what’s going to happen and you never forget or fail to see what’s in store for you. Sometimes life will hurt very badly, but no matter what, life will always have those sweet moments that will make you want to keep coming back for the same situation or scenario over and over again.

its about seeing a really hot chick, either when you're standing line, or at the mall, or at the park, or where ever you may be at the time....but when you see this chick....you start fantasizing what it would be like if you were f***ing her. thats what i think anyway......hahahaaa

Actually, the lyrics to this song were written about a big black dog running in and out of the recording studio, hence the song title.

I think it's a combo of jonzeppelin's and mrguitar5's...The black dog was going in and out of the studio, and in the song it's a woman going in and out of his life. Every time he sees her he thinks about her constantly and what it would be like to fu*k her.

basically a great song about wanting to do a fat chick, much the same as Queen's "fat-Bottom Girls". and yes, the title, having nothing to do with the lyrics or content of the song, derived from a dog that was on the grounds of the studio.

I reckon it's about wanting to bang some prime beaver. The riff is Zeppelin's best. John Paul Jones wrote it but, having said that, only Page could have launched it into the ROCK stratosphere. A fine way to open the greatest album of all time!

That guitar riff is so bad ass, and incredibly hard to play.

i agree with jonzeppelin. it has to be about a girl
"got a flame in my heart, can't get my fill. Eyes that shine burning red, dreams of you all through my head."
The beginning of the song is awesome.

The title comes from a black dog that was running around in the studio, but not the lyrics.

you guys are crazy, this is just like most rock songs, it doesnt have a true meaning just about a how when a guy sees a hot chick and how he is feeling its not meant to have a deep meaning to it, and blackbird is right about how they got the name

word blackbird. the lyrics were not written about the dog that was in the studio...that was only the inspiration for the name. man...i cant believe i said "word" to someone.

i wonder if there is any relation between the title and the black dog of British folklore explained here

http://www.pantheon.org/articles/b/black_dog.html

i`ve heard the thing about the title coming from the fact that there was a black dog on the grounds of the recording studio, and that is probably true, but i can`t help but think that the mythological black dog is perhaps being referenced here in some way. in british folklore these creatures are highly destructive, perhaps a parallel between women who lie and the destructive Black Dog is being made.

I always felt that Led Zeppelin chose song titles that held meaning within meaning. Even the band's name is a play on words (deliberately misspelled).
On "Black Dog" I wondered if the title they chose was a more obscure reference to Sir Winston Churchill (Britain's Prime Minister during WWII) who suffered from bouts of clinical depression. Lord Churchill referred to the dark mood when it came over him as the "Black Dog".

Lastly, does anyone know what the time signature of the music is on "Black Dog"? - it is like no other rock song I've ever listened to. I think it is 6/4 or possibly 9/4 time. Help!

i think this song is great!! and i think that the title was inspired by the black dog running through the studio or whatever... and perhaps its in relation to a girl.. it makes sense to me... its a typical rock song..
