Day after day
Alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
And he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Well on the way
Head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices
Talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
'Round and 'round and 'round and 'round and round
He never listens to them
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Oh and 'round and 'round and 'round and
Oh
Alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
And he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Well on the way
Head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices
Talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
'Round and 'round and 'round and 'round and round
He never listens to them
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round
Oh and 'round and 'round and 'round and
Oh

sometimes this song reminds me of me-but today its about my dad- hes 90, lives on a hill, spends his days looking out the window, and the more i try to please him, the stupider he acts. i cant imagine how terrible it would be to have lived such a remarkable life only to feel so much dissapointment at the end. i will always love him, but today i dont like him.
Wow. Your last sentence was so powerful. How wonderful that you are able to seperate love from like. It took me decades to be able to do that....lots of work on forgiveness. Can you imagine what's going through his mind as he peers out that window? What does he see? Does he view it the same way others do? Is he just waiting out his time until the end? Sorry, but your post struck me. I loved working with the elderly who were coming to the end of their lives, and who had so much wisdom (and stories) to share. On the days that you don't like him, please try to remember that he doesn't like himself very much. Happy people don't lash out at others. And remember that you, too, may one day be sitting beside that window watching the years pass as you feel helpless to change your circumstance. Good luck to you!
