Lyrics for Ramble On as interpreted by kevin

Ramble On Lyrics
Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

*Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots, The time has come to be gone.
And to' our health we drank a thousand times, it's time to Ramble On.

* Chorus

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

* Chorus

Gonna ramble on, sing my song. Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world. I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby. I can't find my bluebird!

my first LedZ song... i was 27 when i started listening to the LedZ (i am 27 now)... have always been intrigued by them but it seems to me there was never a right time. I´m happy it took me so long to start listening to them because it´s difficult to feel the same thrill in anything else. and that is anything else.

This song definetely has Tolkein references in it. I think it's kinda creepy the part about Gollum and the evil one slipping away with a girl. But i love how Plant puts himself in the story And how he's ramblin on and trying to find the girl of his dreams.

Not about LOTR.

I DO NOT hear Gollum to this song, I hear "God damn, the evil one crept up and slipped away with her..."

Shit is just little faggot LOTR fans trying to get away with liking the song because Zeppelin liked LOTR, too, and so that must make it cool. I'll tell all of you god damned assholes right now; THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN ZEPPELIN AND LOTR, EVER. NEVER. NOT IN ONE SINGLE SONG.

Now really, take this song for what the hell it is. A song about a man rambling on off from a woman who changed a lot.

to the most recent comment, even if you don't believe he says "gollum" in the song there is another obvious reference.

"T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair. "

Mordor.... LOTR.

In my opinion, this song is one of Led Zeppelin's best. Some of their other songs are a little overrated, but this deserves every praise it gets.

The song isnt about Lord of the Rings
if it was he wouldnt clarify that magic was in the air years ago
it makes a reference, but i think its more about finding the perfect soul mate

The song is clearly about lotr because these dudes respected Tokien like baby Jesus. I wouldn't say it directly aimed to describe the greatest trilogy of all time but instead make a bad ass metaphor about the perfect worm (the ring). It's tough to get that girl with the competition (gollum) when in fact the ring isn't as precious as we thoughtsssss. Tis evil. For only the one we dare not speak of can wield. The ring will drive you to madness and bring and before you know it your divorced. Moral of the song.......the pussy is a venus fly trap, don't get trapped there for all eternity.

I think the lotr references are metaphorical. Cant anyone else see the references to Homer's Odyssey? "I've been this way ten years to the day" I think its more about Ulysses desperate to get back to Ithaca and be with his wife Penelope "the queen of all my dreams" You can also look at "Ten Years Gone" in a different context.

My first post on this website, and for the song that got me onto thinking about lyrics per se, and not just its music. Although the song is screaming of Tolkien's The Hobbit, almost word for word (not LOTR btw) , everytime i listen to the song i get the feeling its about someone leaving a steady relationship for the freedom of solitude.
