Lyrics for Ramble On as interpreted by kevin

Ramble On Lyrics
Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

*Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots, The time has come to be gone.
And to' our health we drank a thousand times, it's time to Ramble On.

* Chorus

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

* Chorus

Gonna ramble on, sing my song. Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world. I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby. I can't find my bluebird!

Don't let 'em bother you, the song is just what it means to you. Like I think it's about Ramblin' and finding my girl. You could think it's about Lotr. It doesn't matter, it just gives more creativity for more people. Keep makin'' posts.

That's what I think but you don't have the right to say that's what it can't mean for other people. That's the beauty of Led Zeppelin, it can mean what ever you want it too.

I've got some Ramblin' to do to find my girl later, so bye.

First though the LOTR ideas are cool, not everything is about LOTR actually almost nothing really is.

The song (to me) means:

1 A guy when he was down & out (in the darkest depths of mordor) he meets the perfect girl (Verse 5)

2 But he let her slip away (the line about gollum) (Verse 5)

3 So now he's "goin round the world" to "find my girl" (Chorus)

4 And after staying with someone who helped him for a while he knows he's gotta get back to looking "I gotta ramble on" and find that girl again.
(Verses 1 2 &3 and Chorus)

5 The LOTR reffrences and that "mine's a story that can't be told" is just to add some air of mysticism and "coolness" to him (Verse 6)

I Don't think it's about Lotr. Stop saying stuff before you read my comments, I was the one who mostly said it's NOT about Lotr.

some interesting comments on this song...I personally agree with the references to LOTR but I was curious to know if anyone thought that maybe Sam's character was referenced in this song about the girl he found...cuz it was at mordor when he tells Frodo about the girl he wants to marry and that is also where Gollum bites off Frodo's finger and the line "my freedom I hold dear" could possibly be about Sam not wanting to be overtaken by the ring like what happened to Frodo...just something to throw out there I'm curious to hear responses to this!

Okay, to everyone who is agreeing with Chris211 on this Aragorn idea, you're all wrong.

Your entire interpretation falls apart here:
"T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair."
No one met any girl in Mordor. In fact, from what I remember, there was little other than orcs in Mordor. If you're trying to set this song strictly to The Lord of the Rings, you better be ready to defend every line of it.

I'm a huge fan of both Lord of the Rings and Led Zeppelin, but I won't be the first to say that this song isn't "about" the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It's pretty much about falling in love, losing your love, and moving on, yet all the while, continuing looking for love. The reference to Mordor, Gollum, and the Evil One are basically homage to Tolkien by literary allusion. All three are metaphorical. His woman wasn't literally taken away by Gollum and the Evil One. He never actually met her in Mordor.

By the way, there's another hole in the notion that this song is only about some specific occurance in LotR. Gollum and the Evil One, presumably Sauron, were never in league with each other. They never worked together to slip away with "her." And if you insist that she is the One Ring, this is also erroneous, because Sauron never possessed it while Gollum was around. How could they both "slip away" with the Ring of Power? It's such a stupid idea. Please, stop being stupid.

Though I do find it plausible that Plant tried to make more of this song comparable to LotR than just Gollum, Mordor, and Sauron, it seems unwise to say this song is "about" LotR as opposed to the determined search for one's true love.

"Isn't Yes that England band from a while ago whose piano player who made an ice show? I might be mistaken."

If you don't know who "Yes" is, you are hardly qualified to opine about rock music...you couldn't possibly have a sincere knowledge and/or appreciation for the Beatles, the Rolling Stones or Zeppelin if you don't even know who "Yes" is. Next you'll be asking who Jimmy Hendrix and Eric Clapton are...

IMHO...The best Yes album is "Fragile" -- it put them "on the map." They were selling out stadiums in the 70's just as hardily as Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.
...and for the ignoramuses out there who claim to be experts on all things musical -- j/k -- Yes was one of the MAJOR "supergroups" of the 70's. (and they still tour)

Thank's for the Yes info, I'll look into them.

Yeah you guys are "out there who claim to be experts on all things musical" because I don't care. I listen to Led Zeppelin 24/7 and this is the reason I'm on here. I listen to Jimi Hendrix and a little Cream but I'm not on here to talk about them, okay?

And for Adman:
I can listen to The Rolling Stones (I'm listinin' to Jumpin' Jack Flash right now) and The Beatles without knowing what Yes is really. I will reach them in time, I'm just thirteen, and a warrior. Get a life.

"I listen to Led Zeppelin 24/7 and this is the reason I'm on here."

I would suggest that you stop every now and then to get something to eat and to sleep. Thirteen year olds need to grow strong bones and teeth...

Sorry for offending you...you do your 70's rock homework and I'll work on getting a life...Ok? ;-)

Do you know anything about rock 'n roll, 'cause I'd like to know about it more, I wanna know more about the Stones and Cream, know any websites? No hard feelings.

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.

I LIVED the era that interests you...it was an awesome time for rock music...but very dismal due to all the drugs...
To fully appreciate the music of this era, you might want to explore the previous era...Delta Blues. Zeppelin, the Stones and the Beatles owe their roots to the true originals...it started with the slaves on plantations in the south where different regions of African music came together and were further influenced by religious music. Out of this came the 12 bar blues progression...and the "call and response." The revolution started with Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, Son House, etc. In short, leading to blues musicians who toured merry old England. This is where classic rock began..."the blues had a baby and it was rock 'n roll." Elvis is the King.
