Now I`m aimin' for heaven
But probably wind up down in hell
Where upon this alter I will hang my guilt ridden head
But it`s time I`ll take before I begin
Three sheets to the wind, Three sheets to the wind
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Terrified of the open road
Yeah, where it leads ya never know
But rest assured he`ll be on you back
Yeah, the Holy Ghost through his tounges in black
As th band dog howls and the young girl cries
The blessed virgin in her proud dad`s eye
The albatross hangin' round your neck
Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Genuflect all you refugees who fled the land
Now on guilt you kneel
And say a prayer for those left behind
From beyond the pale to the Northern sky
So you saved your shillins and your last six pence
Cause in God`s name they built a barbed wire fence
Be glad you sailed for a better day
But don`t forget there`ll be hell to pay
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Reserrection no protection all things life must be
Ah no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Now bless me father for I have sinned
But it`s the same old story again and again and again
Ah well, such is the bread of an everyday life
From mornin' to noon to this shadowless-night
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

General Comment:I think it's about Irish Immigration, and the guilt they have because of their Religion. So it's about Immigration AND Religion, and the previous comments are all valid IMO.

General Comment:My family is from dublin, and were exiled for IRA support in the thirties. My Gramms used to tell me stories of people who had packed up entire families(and irish families are large) because of the turmoil between north and south. It has nothing to do with hitler. It's because of the damn protestants.

This is definitely not a religion song. the above script says it all.

General Comment:Hitler wasn't Catholic - he viewed the Pope as a threat to his regime and also persecuted Catholics, although to a far lesser extent than the Jews.

General Comment:Does anyone else think the whistle part of the instrumental sounds like the melody from "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash? Anyone? Anyone?

General Comment:I think you guys have it all wrong. I don't think it has to do with religion at all. I think it has more to do with the massive Irish immigration to America...

General Comment:love the reference to some old literature in the line "The albatross hangin' round your neck
Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds"

the line is actually a reference to a story written in the 19'th century called "the tale of the ancient mariner." one of the characters was ticked off due to the doledrums the ship was caught in, and in his frustration, he shot and killed an albatross that recently showed up near the ship, which was considered good luck, as they commonly followed winds. As punishment, they hung the bird's body round his neck. (humiliating, and albatrosses are HEUG! probably was murder on his back.)

General Comment:This song is actually about the conflict in Northern Ireland between the English Protestants and Irish Catholics. He's singing about the guilt he has for leaving his homeland during this time.

General Comment:I created this stupid account for the single purpose of this:

DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT MARTIN LUTHER!

You know what that man did? He told the peasants to quit giving their only money to the fucking catholic church (at the time). I won't judge the catholic religion based on something that may have been confined corruption, so I expect people to have the same respect for the lutheran religion. There are so many self proclaimed 'catholics' and 'christians' who simply don't 'agree' to much of what the bible says. Well, that's how ML felt! He said, "enough with the bullshit" and did what needed to be done!

I don't feel conmfortable with the concept of organized religion, because it feels like a comfy lie. But I do have faith in life and the human race
