Lyrics for I Don't Want To Get Over You as interpreted by wickedlittlegirl

I Don't Want To Get Over You Lyrics
I don't want to get over you
I guess I could take a sleeping pill
And sleep at will
And not have to go through what I go through
I guess I should take Prozac, right,
And just smile all night
At somebody new,
Somebody not too bright
But sweet and kind
Who would try to get you off my mind
I could leave this agony behind
Which is just what I'd do
If I wanted to,
But I don't want to get over you

Cause I don't want to get over love
I could listen to my therapist,
Pretend you don't exist
And not have to dream of what I dream of;
I could listen to all my friends
And go out again
And pretend it's enough,
Or I could make a career of being blue
I could dress in black and read Camus,
Smoke clove cigarettes and drink vermouth
Like I was 17
That would be a scream
But I don't want to get over you

Stephen Merrit does it again. With the way he can set up a true-to-life scenario with few words and make you feel all the pain or elation he went experienced, I consider his songs bona fide poetry, right up there with the masters: Morrissey, Nick Drake, The Flaming Lips, and Neutral Milk Hotel. Just wonderful.

i'm conflicted as to whether or not a hip-hop song would be cool coming from stephin merritt, but that'd be almost out of character..

This song is so real. I can't believe I was living without knowing the Magnetic Fields.

You were not living, you were existing, then.

I especially like the not too bright line. I don't think it means someone not too smart, but someone who didn't shine quite like the subject of the song. Perhaps that's not what he meant, but that's how I'm taking it.

Nightmare of you kinda ripped this song .. in "Id dodge a bullet for you"

"I can talk to my therapist, pretend you don't exist."

this makes me sad. I love this song.

I love how cynical he is..
but yes, this song is great.
"I don't want to get over you".. no one ever wants to get over a certain love.

I can't help loving this song. And even though I've heard some of their songs before I didn't consider myself a fan like I do nowadays. I had to meet the love of my life first and get dumped then (several times) in oreder to love the Magnetic Fields. It was my ex-asshole who dedicated me this song and I thought hated it.After several months I re-discovered this song and realized that I hated my ex, not the song. it took me a bit more to realize that I don't really hate my ex, otherwise I'd be listening some other meaningless songs instead.
