Are you ready to be liberated
On this sad side city streets
Well the birds have been freed from their cages
I got freedom and my youth
My name is Brody I'm from Melbourne
Fitzroy Melbourne Fitzboy Melbourne
I grew up on Bell St. then on Bennett St.
My mom kicked out my dad for battery
Found a way she found a way out of spiritual penury
Working single mother in an urban struggle
Blames herself now cause I grew up troubled
It hit me i got everything i need
My one heart felt too much from the start
Ive seen people come and go
Living large and living low
You can build up your walls sitting on death row
Let the curtain fall on your murdered soul
You can wash it all down swallow your story
Get smacked off your head go down in downroll glory
You wont solve it committing self inflicted crime
Go on pull the trigger this will be the last time
I speak of the truth the truth of the heart
Like a desperate thirst in a raging drought
Hey youth time flies by
Theres an everlasting battle for eternal life
I love a man from California
Hes the prettiest thing we got the same disorder
The way you feel is OK its never gonna change anyway
It hit me I got everything i need
On this sad side city streets
Well the birds have been freed from their cages
I got freedom and my youth
My name is Brody I'm from Melbourne

**NOTE** it is kind of long:
(she is asking who ever is listening could be a friend?
if they are ready to be free from a area that their's probably violence
and possibly hate? and when she mentions the birds it is a observation she has
done meaning the birds are flying free so she says i am here with all this mess but at least
i have my freedom the way to express her self and her youth the time when one feels
good i'd assume?)
i would do the rest of the song but i will leave the rest for someone else to do so pretty much what i have explained is my view on that line. i fact like this song but that's just my opinion.
I hate mtv too, but if you guys wouldn't watch it it wouldn't bother you what videos are on. All I'm saying is, the music should be the priority. Every time people pay attention to fame or something else that is not meaningful it takes the concentration away from the music. I understand why people hate fame and bands that are too famous. I hate fame too, but I can't abandon my favorite bands just 'cause they happen to be famous. Green Day is huge and yeas, it's annoying but I love that band. And I'm not gonna stop listening them no matter how much they're on mtv.
And this is totally kick ass song. Brody is the sexiest woman ever. I wish I could be like her...
@ everyone else: comments are for talking about the song, not arguing about who is a sell-out or what a sell-out is.
xoxox
there not sell outs and theres nothing rong withother genres of punk like i love ska and scrEAMO!
WHAT MAKES THE "ALTERNATIVE" PEOPLE SO ELITE THAT THEY THINK THEY SHOULD BE THE ONLY ONES HEARING THESE BANDS MUSIC, AS THEY ARE CLEARLY THE ONLY ONES WORTHY ENOUGH?
this is why i fucking hate the modern punk scene, because they all act so fucking superior and look down on others. not cool. not punk.
I really like this song. It's a good story. I often walk around singing "My name is Brody I'm from Melbourne, Fitzroy Melbourne, Fitzroy Melbourne."
I wish I was Brody :|
Brody's intelligent. The Distillers songs are intelligent with big words and detail but at the same time they're straight from the gutter and feel like dirt. It's Dalle's voice that does it.
