I listen for your footsteps
Coming up the drive.
Listen for your footsteps
But they don't arrive.
Waiting for your knock, dear
On my old front door.
I don't hear it,
Does it mean you don't love me anymore?

I hear the clock a'ticking,
On the mantel shelf.
See the hands a'moving,
But I'm by myself.
I wonder where you are tonight,
And why I'm by myself.
I don't see you,
Does it mean you don't love me anymore?

Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue.
'Cause you know darling, I love only you.
You'll never know it hurt me so,
I hate to see you go.
Don't pass me by, don't make me cry.

I'm sorry that I doubted you,
I was so unfair.
You were in a car crash,
And you lost your hair.
You said that you would be late
About an hour or two.
I said, "That's alright, I'm waiting here,
Just waiting to hear from you".

Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue.
'Cause you know darling, I love only you.
You'll never know it hurt me so,
I hate to see you go.
Don't pass me by, don't make me cry.

Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue.
'Cause you know darling, I love only you.
You'll never know it hurt me so,
I hate to see you go.
Don't pass me by, don't make me cry.

General Comment:Paul's apparent death in a car crash was the secret in all the lyrics, album covers, playback phrases in many of the songs . The following Movie/ Documentary ... Paul McCartney Really Is Dead: The Last Testament Of George Harrison explains the Folk Legend of McCarney's death. It can be found on faulmccartney.com/# or vimeo.com/…

General Comment:I absolutely love this song. It has this beautiful air of innocent love to it. I can really relate to it. This song is one of the reasons Ringo's my favourite Beatle.

General Comment:was this song written before or after Maureen (ringos wife) had an affair with george. because the line you were in a car crash couuld refer to Maureen getting in a crash with her motor bike when they split.

IDK i think this song is an awsome rift. Its so ~sexy~

General Comment:all you guys need to shut the fuck up. seriously, fucken crybabies. The people in here that actually discuss the meaning of this song and what it means to them, I dont mind. But all the other no life losers, get lost.

Now, what this song means to me. I get the feel that ringo has a girlfriend and pretty much she isnt coming around anymore. He's simply asking "Does it mean you dont love me anymore?" Then the chorus explains why he dosnt want her to leave.

great song overall. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a boring ass song. I love george's song writing and all, but that is just a boring song that pretty much goes nowhere. This is very good and catchy song. Much better than most of the songs on the white album. But they're also much better songs on the white album than this one.

This is all a matter of opinion, not fact. So don't waste your time trying to talk shit on my opinions.

General Comment:Ringo's track "Don't Pass Me By", has lyrics that read, "I listen for your footsteps but they don't arrive", and later, "I'm sorry that I doubted you...I was so unfair. You were in a car crash, and you lost your hair...".

Also, when the chorus is played backwards, you can hear "Who'd we pay for now, we paid for now, it's that one." This may refer to them looking for a replacement for Paul.
