Remember the first time I told you I love you -
It was raining hard and you never heard -
You sneezed! and I had to say it over
"I said I love you" I said... you didn't say a word

Just held you hands to my shining eyes
And I watched as the rain ran through your fingers
Held your hands to my shining eyes and smiled as you kissed me...
"if you die" you said "so do I" you said...

And it starts the day you make the sign
"tell me I'm forever yours and you're forever mine
Forever mine..."
"if you die" you said "so do I" you said...

And it starts the day you cross that line
"swear I will always be yours and you'll always be mine
You'll ways be mine
Always be mine..."

Remember the last time I told you I love you -
It was warm and safe in our perfect world -
You yawned and I had to say it over
"I said I love you" I said... you didn't say a word

Just held your hands to your shining eyes
And I watched as the tears ran through your fingers
Held your hands to your shining eyes and cried...
"if you die" you said "so do I" you said...

But it ends the day you see how it is
There is no always forever... just this...
Just this...
"if you die" you said "so do I" you said

But it ends the day you understand
There is no if... just and
There is no if... just and
There is no if...

General Comment:The meaning to this song is about a couple who loves each other very much and they are blind in love. That new love that you always feel, like you will be together forever. However, sometimes, when a person goes through pain and stress, they take it on the other person and in turn feel that pain too. They continue to hurt together. Then on this day, this person doesn't realize what has happened to the other, what type of pain that person afflicted on the other. The other person is then crying because he/she can't take it anymore. There is a realization that they can not be together forever anymore. And the pain will stop once they realize that there is no forever between them. That their relationship is "just this."

General Comment:when i first listened to this song i thought it was kinda a boring happy song but after reading the lyrics i realize whats really going on in this song. the relationship is strong. they love each other dearly. halfway through the song the meaning switches places although it sounds the same a few words are switched and really give the song a twist. instead of it being a rainy day. it is a sunny perfect day. when the boy says i love you she just yawns as if she didnt hear him when its obvious she did. "it ends the day you see how it is there is no always and forever" ends the relationship between the two.

it just goes to show that the one you love more than anything can fade away with just a little time, and smith did a great job of showing that with this song.

General Comment:The flower/soil thing is too far removed for me.

I prefer to think of it as being a perfect example of mixed emotions in love.

General Comment:I played Bloodflowers once when my lover was staying over.
She's not a big Cure fan, but she cried so hard when this song came on.
That's what it means to me, knowing that a relationship will end someday, even at your peak of happiness, knowing that one day you'll be parted.
    Depressing huh?

General Comment:Funny how the songs that have the most comments are the singles, or are the most popular. Anyway, I think this song has multiple meanings. Overall it is very beautiful. I love everything about this.

General Comment:it's hard to tell the meaning of most good music if you ignore the actual music and pay attention only to the vocals.

The meaning is hidden in the musical development. pay particular attention to how young and confined the "garden" of music sounds as one thing blooms into the next in bursts of strumming and brushes of synth over the hollow crackling drums.

The vocals are a conversation between a flower and the sun. It begins on a wet rainy day, when she was a seed just beginning to sprout.

He tells her that he loves her, but nestled in dirt beneath the pouring rain, she doesn't hear him.

She sneezes, as she begins to sprout. She feels his warmth and reaches towards him, towards his shining eyes, up past the surface of the soil into the sky...

The seasons change, winter comes, he leaves, and she sleeps....

Time passes, she reawakens as he returns and their relationship continues to develop into a lush and beautiful multilayered garden, full of textures, colors and life.

    And now I shut up.

And you should listen to the rest and appreciate it yourself.

P.S. IF YOUR ARE of THE CURE and you don't appreciate what I'm doing, please drop me a message.

General Comment:Thanks Dizz! THe last time I listened to this song, 4 years ago I really thought it was about a girl falling in love with someone else.
But after reading your comment and looking at the lyrics again, I totally understand it.

"If you die" you said, "so do I" you said.
    ....
'"There is no if, just and"

which becomes "And you die, so do I"

This song is heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time. Amazing ambivalence.

General Comment:It has to be about the woman he loves getting old and eventually dying. It is beautiful in it's sadness.
I don't think I could live without this song.
