Nothing I am
Nothing I dream
Nothing is new

Nothing I think or believe in or say
Nothing is true

It used to be so easy, I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy
But the last day of summer, never felt so cold
The last day of summer, never felt so old
Never felt so

All that I have
All that I hold
All that is wrong

All that I feel for or trust in or love
All that is gone

It used to be so easy, I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy
But the last day of summer, never felt so cold
The last day of summer, never felt so old
The last day of summer, never felt so cold
Never felt so

General Comment:Most of The Cure and RS lyrics are about dark, despair and depression. The lead guitar in this song is just simply amazing!! Listen to it closely with your eyes closed and let yourself drift focusing on the guitar riffs. Nothing better!

Memory:Very beautiful song that expresses it all!
When listening to it I always think back of one Summer in particular.

Well when I met you Amy my “Summer 2008” was totally complete but on one of those last days when I finally dared to write you a poem, telling you how much I loved you, apparently you didn’t really love me as I loved you… At that point I came to realise that I was perhaps much further ahead in life than you were since you were only after fun. All in all I never had such a lovely Summer but that last day felt awfully cold, not to mention that terrible day in September when you declared love to someone less.

I still have nightmares and bad dreams about you, but luckily the whole thing is far back in the past now!

As sais earlier the song is beautiful and The Cure is marvellous!

General Comment:It's about hitting rock bottom. There can come a time in our life when, for the most part, everything we once believed in no longer holds as much significance to us. To me, at least how I always percieved it, the lyrics are about a failed man/woman relationship. Throughout the lyrics, the point that is expressed is that nothing seems to matter anymore - all hope is gone. This is driven home, in my opunion, by the most beautiful part of the song, the pre-chorus that so darkly flows with a solemn mood, "It used to be so easy I never even tried, yeah, it used to be so easy...". This is the final realization that all is gone, everything that once once held dear to the heart has vanished in an instant of self reflection. Though most songs have a tendency to usually end on a positive note, lyrics that usually reflect a glimmer of hope, this one stands out in stark contrast as one that never strays from it's somber tone. In this sense, the song almost has a reversed therapeutic value to it, a melancholy of sorts, in a sober thoughtfulness type of way. Remember, no hope is better than false hope. Also, the intro of this song, the music that sets the tone of the lyrics that are to follow is absolutely brilliant - it's structure musically is amazing and picture-perfect. All in all, the song "The Last Day Of Summer" contains perfect music, perfect lyrics, a perfect theme/tone, and it's all perfectly paced (doesn't bore the listener!) for an eventful five minutes. What else is there to say? Robert Smith and The Cure at their finest.

General Comment:I think this song is about the end of childhood, when you grow up and the world is cold and grey.

"IT USED TO BE SO EASY
    I NEVER EVEN TRIED"

Is how about life is so easy when you're a child, everyone does things for you and you don't even have to try too hard or care too much about anything.

    "NOTHING I AM
    NOTHING I DREAM
    NOTHING IS NEW
NOTHING I THINK OR BELIEVE IN OR SAY
    NOTHING IS TRUE"

is all about the realisation of becoming an adult and facing your own mortality. You thought childhood would last forever, but suddenly you realise that all good things must come to an end.

"BUT THE LAST DAY OF SUMMER
    NEVER FELT SO COLD
    THE LAST DAY OF SUMMER
    NEVER FELT SO OLD"

The last day of summer refers to the last day of childhood and on this day you realise how cold the world is.

General Comment:This is a very sad song. Dark. Desperate. Sometimes when I cannot see any hope, this song is my heart voice.

General Comment:I don't interprit this song as a relationship song.
To me, this song represents what the end of summer means. I experienced that quite recently. Summer was the best time of my life, i had the most amazing life and somehow, on the last day of summer, I knew it was the end of all that and I was right. It's mourning the loss of a brilliant period of your life whre everything is carefree. And then it goes cold.

General Comment:Best intro ever. I love this song, quite possibly one of the most emotionally impacting pieces of music I've ever heard.

General Comment:the way i see it is that nothing you believe in or want to think is right or cool is the right thing...your always wrong and it never is going to work. you can put this into a relationship ideal or other ones but to me it is a relationship. no matter how much i want it to work or be real...it will just end..like summer.

General Comment:not so much the lyrics, but the feeling evoked from the melody, reminds me of 1995, a summer i spent with my brother towards the ends before school started again. it just rings oh so very nostalgic and beautiful. heartbreaking and meloncholia in a sense.
