It started with a dedication
"Lost in admiration - happy birthday - I'm forever yours - Blossom"
Faded red inside a tiny book of butterflies
I smiled, surprised at how when flickered through
The wings flew by spelled out my name

Six months went by, the summer lost
Obsessively the letters dropped into my life
The same soft, blood, smooth flowing hand
"Please try to understand: I have to see you, have to feel you
Tell you all the ways I need you; yours forever in love..."

[Chorus]
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
It varies but the smallest things
You never know how anything will change
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
And alters but the smallest things
You never know how anything will fade

The year grew old, incessantly she wrote to me
She'd started smoking poetry!
I laughed in recognition of a favorite phrase
She'd pulled me in
I answered her
A Christmas card, in sepia
Arranging when and where
And how the two of us should meet

Her opening so well prepared
A nervous smile
I couldn't take my eyes from her
She whispered
"Can I use some of your lipstick?"
It was perfect, so believable
I couldn't help but feel that it was real
And kissing crimson fell into her waiting arms

[Chorus]

So alone into the cold; new year without another word from her
I wrote to ask if we could maybe meet again before the spring
But weeks went by with no reply until once more my birthday came
And with it my surprise, but this time nothing was the same

"I'm sorry - blame infatuation - blame imagination
I was sure you'd be the one, but I was wrong
It seems reality destroys our dreams - I won't forget you - Blossom"
Faded red inside a tiny book of old goodbyes

Strange attraction spreads it's wings
It varies but the smallest things
You never know how anything will change
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
And alters but the smallest things
And you never know

General Comment:Okay, when listening to this song a few times & reading the lyrics the only sort of thing that made sense to me is that whom ever this song is about was writing him & he would write back, but they never actually met in person. & during the time before they met when they was writing letters to each other they started to imagine, probably dream of what it would be like to be together, but since they only knew each other from the letters, their imagination got the best of them. Then finally when they meet in person " Blossom" realized that this person was nothing that she expected. For some reason when reading the lyrics to this song it reminds me of people who internet date. For the simple fact that, people who date on the internet will talk to this other person they've never met, getting all rallied up on imagination, picturing how perfect they would be together, blah blah blah. Then when they meet up in real life one person may still be like, "Omg, love" and then on the other hand the other person would be like "ughhh... I was expecting something much different.." So yeah, blame infatuation, blame imagination,it seems reality destroys our dreams. (:

General Comment:Dudes, you guys really don't know what this is about? Well, King of Some Island is the closest to what it is about. They interview him about the song and it's meaning and he explained how there was this chick that was obsessed with him and woudl write letters to him and all that junk and when they met up, she realizes that he's not the person she thought he was so she just plain ignored him til she finally told him that it was just an infatuation.

Possible the most adorable, cutest, perfect way of asking for a kiss.

I think this songs about two people, who have never met.
Though they're writing to each other. And they start to fall for each other and decide they MUST meet.
And the day they do, is so unbelievable and perfect. And he falls for her so much more.
But she goes home and thinks she's crazy and it'll never work.
So stops replying to his letters and moves on, though she'll never forget him.
Possibly because what they had for that short time was unlike anything she'd ever experienced.

    And 'She'd started smoking poetry!'
I don't think is about drugs, It actually could be about poetry.
She's read some of his favorite stuff and quoted it.
And he laughed at the recognition of it.

General Comment:Why are people commenting on the caps??? Doesn't anyone realize that these lyrics were copy and pasted from the old thecure.com and 1994-200? lyrics were all in caps. thecure.com/archive/…

General Comment:I think King of Some Island has a good take on the song, because lots of real girls are obsessed with Robert and it's believable that one of them said things that connected with him personally. But it makes sense on a general level too, because haven't we all been infatuated with someone and had to give it up as unrealistic?

I think "smoking poetry" meant she was reading and quoting it like an addiction. I love the line about sharing lipstick. What a cute way of asking for a kiss.

General Comment:Ye GoatboyX2 Mint Car and Strange Attraction are almost the same. They are both "happy songs" and they are play the same.

Does "SHE'D STARTED SMOKING POETRY!" mean that she smoked crack/pot/hash? Cause on Pornography Rob was on lots of drugs and wrote a very good album, so maybe poetry is = drugs. Kinda can't explain it, but thats what i think :)
