He waits for her to understand
But she won't understand at all
She waits all night for him to call
But he won't call anymore
He waits to hear her say

Forgive
But she just drops her pearl-black eyes
And prays to hear him say
I love you
But he tells no more lies
He waits for her to sympathize
But she won't sympathize at all
She waits all night to feel his kiss
But always wakes alone
He waits to hear her say
Forget
But she just hangs her head in pain
And prays to hear him say
No more
I'll never leave again

How did we get this far apart?
We used to be so close together
How did we get this far apart?
I thought this love would last forever

He waits for her to understand
But she won't understand at all
She waits all night for him to call
But we won't call
He waits to hear her say
Forgive
But she just drops her pearl-black eyes
And prays to hear him say
I love you
But he tells no more lies

How did we get this far apart?
We used to be so close together
How did we get this far apart?
I thought this love would last forever

Song Meaning:At some point the guy loved her but doesn't love her anymore and wants her to forgive him for not loving her anymore and forget the past. However, she can't because she still loves him and asks him "how did we get so far apart? We used to be so close together. How did we get this far apart? I thought we'd last forever." During this whole time she waits and prays for him to return to say and do the things he used to do like kiss her and say I love you. She is in pain and can't sympathize for him because she doesn't understand why he feels like he doesn't love her anymore.

General Comment:horrible feelings to have, or go through. somehow he makes so much pain into a beautiful work.
I wish I couldn't relate to this song. Too bad at some point, we all will be in a similar situation.
also doesn't help that I have pearl black eyes.

General Comment:This song is one of the tracks that makes the album Wish. I love this and A Letter To Elise, two songs that haunt me when i listen to them....

General Comment:I don't know how true this is, and I gave "The Edge" a different meaning, but I always liked how since "The Edge" was the next track, it felt like the continuation of a story of two lovers.

General Comment:But if you keep on listening to this song, Trust, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Letter to Elisse, To Wish Impossible Things, Cut, End, then that's another story. There are other songs like these I just named, but they came in handy since I'm listening to wish and I have just ended a relationship I thought "would last forever"

General Comment:Yeah, The Cure's got great songs about being in love and great songs, like this one, about breaking up. It's a transition, after you realize the other one wasn't really worth it, you should move on to Shiver and Shake.

"You're just three sick holes that run like sores" works if you're a straight man.

General Comment:He fell out of love with her and only wants her to understand and forgive him.

She deeply loves him and believes there's still a chance.

General Comment:I can completely relate for once. Like everyone said, it's the "ultimate break-up song".
