Lyrics for A Chain Of Flowers as interpreted by oofus

A Chain Of Flowers Lyrics
Please wake up
It's so dark and cold
Please wake up
I feel so alone
And I feel so scared
That you're going away
And I feel so scared...

All I want is summer
Stories from before
Just like the day you tried to hide
Behind the churchyard wall
And fell asleep before I came...

I found you
In a chain of flowers
Sleeping like a marble girl
Sleeping in another world...

I'll never tell you
Of all the different ways
You make me so afraid...

the lyrics are just so touching.
so is she suicidal, or has she commited suicide?
how do you protect someone who is falling away from everything?
*sigh* so many of the cure's songs seem to be written for my life. this, in particular, fits my best friend.

This song is so unbelievably beautiful. I think it's about the girl being suicidal.
"I'll never tell you of all the different ways you make me so afraid..." I mean how amazing is that?

I'm not exactly sure about the song meaning, but check out the "Join the Dots" boxed set. Here's what Robert says about it,
"Towards the end at Miraval, I was getting a bit stuck for lyrics, trying to finish 23 songs in a month, so I said to the others 'Please give me some words.' Simon slipped some under my door, and they included the line 'All I want is summer.' That was the catalyst for me to write A Chain of Flowers. It's essentially a song about the awful fear of losing someone you love."

I always thought the chain of flowers in the title was like the myth of a fairy ring, where his lover is asleep in it, she is prone to magic that can bring her to a different world.

Now it's later, and he's remembering that time when he first realised how afraid he was of losing her, and it just hits him harder.

This song feels like it's from another world.

This song...it's beautiful. I honestly don't care what it's about...i think it's one of those songs that has a different meaning to everyone. For me, this song is up there with songs like "letter to elise"...Genious.

It really is beautiful. I don't think it's about suicide, just losing the one that you love and remembering memories you think you've lost. That's what it means to me anyway and I've related to this more than most other songs I've ever heard, especially the part where he remembers past summers and certain things that happened between them, and, I'll never tell you all the different ways you make me so afraid.

a friend of mine told me that this song is about a boy whos girlfriend drinks alot, and he doesnt want her to but he is just there for her, and he is really worried she will die, and he wants her back the way she was before she drank.
And eventually she runs away when she is drunk and dies.

i like this meaning in a kind of morbid way

The first verse of this makes me imagine an elderly couple, and the wife wakes up one morning to find that her husband has died during the night. She desperately tries to wake him up, panicking about being left on her own and remembering all the happy times together. Makes you cry.

Interesting, some of these comments. I never made a connection to suicide.
