sure fred it is snobby, but i have a reason to be when a couple of their songs are so exploited and all their others are so obscure. Its like the fucking media doesn't want to play anything of their that is even remotely dark or serious. all radio must be happy happy joy joy all the time.

rainydayboy, I see where you are coming from but this song isn't exploited to everyone. Since I was just a kid when the song came out, I only have it because when i downloaded like every Cure song it happened to be one of them and I love it. Someone said something about the lyrics and the music flowing so well together and when I listen to it there is a lot of mental imagery that I associate with it. *sigh* i love this song even if it is exploited and one of the more "popular" ones...

I'm so glad that someone else appreciates the Dinosaur Jr.'s cover!!!

Although i like this song (and love the cure... more so Head on the Door than Kiss Me...), it is ruined for me a bit, because every time i hear it i am reminded of every school dance/sweet 16/party where, when this song played, inevitably some girl who's now ex-boyfriend had claimed this to be their "song" (they obviously ignored the part about finding themselves "alone alone alone"!!!!)would run off crying and setting off a dramatic scene... did this bother me because it... meant I now had to console a friend? interrupted my dancing? made me miss the song? NO!!! I wanted a reason (read: boyfriend) to have a dramatic scene of my very own!!!!

ps- loved the video, made 120 Minutes worth staying up for.

a lot of people already know how great the cure is... and a lot of people listen and appreciate their other songs too... and some people listen to only a few of the cure songs... so what? they still listen. and what matters is if they like it right? i don't see anything to complain about

This song does something to my insides. It is truly amazing. To me it's about a situation that occurs in many relationships. A guy and a girl, love each other madly. She tells him how she feels, but he doesn't say what he feels outloud to her, he only thinks of all the amazing ways he loves her. She thinks that because he doesn't say it, that he doesn't love her. But she doesn't understand that he does love her, he loves her so much it chokes him up and he can't say the words! Hehehe there we are. Dammit i LOVE this song. The music makes me feel like im in a dream which is why it fits so well with the lyrics!

Ummm, all of these other comments are interesting, but to me this song is VERY CLEARLY about a wet dream -- about the most beautiful way to do so, but still its about a wet dream! The dreamer wakes from the most beautiful love affair he's ever had and realises that it was sadly, only a dream.

this is my favorite song of all time... for some reason I always smile when I hear it....

If I had to disect it I would say its about remembering what could have been... perhaps.. if things had been different.

You wake up from the wonderful dreams of your past love with tears in your eyes..

wether its about his drowned girlfriend, or someone he misses... I refect on it as my childhood... everything I could have been.. everything I have become.

oh man, definitely my favorite song. sorry if its such a "sellout" but this song actually is life changing. well it changed my life if that means anything.

seeing the cure live is amazing i HIGHLY reccomend it. even if you arent a huge fan. they are so good live. plus you get to laugh at all the robert smith and morticia adams lookalikes O:-)

I think it can be about different timing of feelings between two people. The girl loves him, and though he has feelings for her, he still wants to make sure they are genuine. He later realizes that he's been "asleep for days" and realizes how strongly he loves her. However, he didn't speak up about his feelings, or once he did, she had already moved on.
