I couldn't hear a word you said I couldn't hear at all You talked until your tongue fell out And then you talked some more I knew if I turned I'd turn away from you And I couldn't look back Tell yourself, we'll start again Tell yourself, it's not the end Tell yourself, it couldn't happen Not this way, not today

My Opinion:All Alkaline Trio did to this song was brutally murder it. No one could ever do justice to a Cure song in my opinion. However, If you like The Exploding Boy try listening to "A Few Hours After This" or "The Caterpillar".

General Comment:This song, should have made it on the album...much better than a b-side. Love the bass and guitar work.

General Comment:Smith felt "The Exploding Boy" represented the start of an era. Quoting "Join the Dots":

"Suddenly the B-sides are all complete songs. I was bursting with enthusiasm and expectation and The Exploding Boy summed that feeling up. It's a great B-side for Inbetween Days, it has that frantically strumming guitar, some rocking Porl sax, and it captures perfectly the happiness I felt playing in the new lineup. It was so good...every song we did from that point on, after Simon re-joined, was recorded as a potential album track."

    great song

General Comment:I don't like the Alkaline Trio version as much as the original. D:
I definitely love this song, though. My favourite song by The Cure is a tie between Exploding Boy, Charlotte Sometimes and The Figurehead.
    Such an amazing band. ^^

General Comment:A more underappreciated Cure song there has never been!! So jaunty and great to sing along to- as mood altering as something like Charlotte sometimes just on the other side of the spectrum.

General Comment:its a song about excess and lack of understanding

apparently head on the door was first going to be called the exploding boy, maybe they would have included this song on the album if they had
