I went into the butchers
I said wanted wanted wanted some...
Meat
Pass me some of that steak over there
It looks so...
Sweet

I lost my heart to a meat hook!
That butcher man was some...
Lady
He really stole my heart
He hung me up on his meat hook
A real piece of...
Slaughterhouse art

I lost my heart to a meat hook!
There's a meat hook in my heart
Tearing me all apart
Ripping out my insides
But I just can't get away
I can't leave my
Meat hook

General Comment:This is some of what Smith says about "Meathook":

"It's an in joke of sorts, arising from an incident during the Hansa days when an old producer kept complaining that one song had no hooklines".

    He also said:

"A strained comparison between the chart pop song catch and revolting dead meat?"

    I like this song!

General Comment:David LP fan, my take is "The butcher man was some lady" means that the gay caballero was so enthralled with the butcher man that he will no longer even try to hide his feelings by having relationships with women.
Slaughterhouse art, to means, that the man's body -- or perhaps a part thereof -- was so beautiful to this young gay fellow that it was like a work of art.

General Comment:no, the butcher man was a 'lady' so it's a metaphor for a girl putting his heart on a 'meathook'.

I mean I could be wrong, but it seems pretty straightforward.

General Comment:why does the line i lost my heart to a meathook have to mean they fell in love with someone, the slaughterhouse art line makes me think its something more gruesome in a jokey way, a texas chainsaw massacre parody

General Comment:No, he said, Butcher MAN. My guess is, it's about a heretofore closeted gay caballero who goes into a butcher shop and falls in love with the proprietor

General Comment:This is a joke song, the band came up with the song to take the piss when someone at Hansa (their first record company) complained that one of their songs had no hooks in it.

Very rough interpretation of the lyrics:

A young gay man tries it on with a big, butch drag queen and finds this big guy is into pretty hard sex and possibly sadomasochism... the young guy wants to break out of it but the big guy has him 'hooked' and he can't get away... think something along the lines of Lola by the Kinks.

I might be well off, but hey, it makes sense when you look at the lyrics. :)
