Lyrics for Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! as interpreted by Ice

Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! Lyrics
For the benefit of Mr. Kite
There will be a show tonight on trampoline
The Hendersons will all be there
Late of Pablo Fanques Fair - what a scene
Over men and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!
The celebrated Mr. K.
Performs his feat on Saturday and Bishopsgate
The Hendersons will dance and sing
As Mr. Kite flies through the ring, don't be late
Misters K. and H. assure the public
Their production will be second to none
And of course Henry the Horse dances the waltz!
The band begins at ten to six
When Mr. K. performs his tricks without a sound
And Mr. H. will demonstrate
Ten somersaults he'll undertake on solid ground
Having been some days in preparation
A splendid time is guaranteed for all
And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill

An awesome song. The events in this song were taken word for word from an antique poster John came across. I love this song.

It's mocking the elite class who try to out do each other in splendour - 'keeping up with the Jones''.

This song was written by John after he bought a victorian circus poster while recording Strawberry Fields. Inspired by the victorian wording and the was the names were posted i.e Messrs Kite and henderson, he decided to write the song. Almost all of the details on the poster are included in the song at some point. Some of the billed events have been changed for the song, e.g the horse was not named Henry and Mr. H actually was supposed to do 21 somersaults on solid ground! Gr8 song!

This song is brilliant. One of John's best works in my opinion. The music is fabulous, and I think it's great how he made the song out of a circus poster. Later, a similar song was done by the Monkees called "The Poster." I love the Monkees, but I think that song was crap. It was nothing compared to BFTBOMK.

I take that back. I don't think it's crap.

I like the line about wanting to "see her fly through the air." And it's a pretty good song overall...I was just in a bad mood last night.

huge beatles fan - haha and for some reason, this song gives me a creepy feeling - i think its all the minor chords - plus Johns thrilling voice. its a really neat concept though, how its not about love but about...a carnaval? haha! with the beatles...they always knew how to surprise you ! right!

I feel I ought to give George Martin a mention here because the weird looped organ is my favourite thing he did for the Beatles. Just like them he was a true musical pioneer!

this is why the beatles were so great, they could take words off a circus poster and make it into an awesome song.
