When does a holding keep me locked away
No chance was given to find myself today
My time of aging wonder when I'll die
But when my time will come I know the reason why!
I have an escape
Alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have to use it
To keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke
When I die bury me in smoke!
Under the world I wait for my fate
My bodies lying beneath my blissful state
My time of aging wonder when I'll die
But when my time will come, I know the reason why
I have to risk it
Alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have to use it
To keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke,
When I die bury me in smoke
No chance was given to find myself today
My time of aging wonder when I'll die
But when my time will come I know the reason why!
I have an escape
Alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have to use it
To keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke
When I die bury me in smoke!
Under the world I wait for my fate
My bodies lying beneath my blissful state
My time of aging wonder when I'll die
But when my time will come, I know the reason why
I have to risk it
Alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have to use it
To keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke,
When I die bury me in smoke

Anyway, I dont think this song is about weed either. Hail the Leaf certainly is. But this song is kinda like Down's Cowboys From Hell... this is who the fuck we are, and we're here to stay, and if you got a problem with it, fuck off.
Love the line "Dont regret the rules I broke, when I die, bury me in smoke"
I think that line means that the speaker will hold on to his convictions and his beliefs to the grave.
I saw Down this past summer at the Roseland Theatre in Portland, OR. Before playing the song "Hail the Leaf," Phil told a story about a man who had been to a dozen of their shows. The guy wanted to ask Phil a question: Do you still smoke weed? Phil responded "Well, call me Doctor Phil, but I'm personally perscribed five joints a day."
That said, Down, in my opinion, possibly beats out Pantera for the greatest metal band of the last twenty years. There is a groove that is missing from most mainstream metal these days that simply cannot be learned anywhere but the southern united states.
Windows are closing, keyed and locked away
No chance was given to find myself today
My time of aging, wonder when I'll die?
But, when my time will come, I'll know the reason why!
I have an escape, a low that keeps me safe within my home.
I have a reason to keep me satisfied until I'm gone.
Don't regret the rules I broke, when I die bury me in smoke.
Under the world, away from my pain
My soul is resting beneath my blissful haze
My time of aging, wonder when I'll die?
But, when my time will come, I'll know the reason why!
I have an escape, a low that keeps me safe within my home.
I have a reason to keep me satisfied until I'm gone.
Don't regret the rules I broke, when I die bury me in smoke.
The lyrics don't make a lot of sense, but that's the way I like it. I like to create my own meanings to songs.
Here's some examples of why I interpreted it out to mean suicide:
"Your chance was given to find my self today." - he's talking to himself about how he's lost.
"when my time will come I'll know the reasons why" - he knows how he's going to die because he's going to kill himself.
"I haven't escaped a low that keeps me safe from within my home" - he's so depressed that he isn't even safe in his own home.
"when I die bury me in smoke" smoke coming from a gun blast to his head.
So yeah, I think it's about him planning his own suicide, but before he suicides he's going to live the rest of his short life to the fullest.
Windows are closing, keyed and locked away
No chance was given to find myself today...
My time of aging... wonder when I'll die...
But When My Time Will Come I Know The Reason WHYYYY!!!
I have an escape, alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have a reason, to keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke
When I die bury me in smoke
Under the world I wait for my fate
My soul is wasting benesth my blissful rise
My time of aging wonder when I'll die
But when my time will come, I know the reason why
I have an escape, alone it keeps me safe and in my home
I have a reason, to keep me satisfied until I'm gone
Don't regret the rules I broke
When I die bury me in smoke
now for the meaning.. it doesn't have an actual meaning... its a good song. and im not taking anything away from Phil Anselmo.. because for one, he's my favorite vocalist and frontman of alltime... but it was just a song.. him and Pepper Keenan were just jamming and came up with it..... no actual meaning..
I haven't escaped a low that keeps me safe from in my home
he hasn't hit a low that's low enough to keep him from wanting more crack
I have a reason to keep me satisfied until I croak
crack
don't regret the rules I broke,
to pay for his habit
when I die bury me in smoke
need i say more?
