  My Interpretation:I LOVE this song. I have gone through that exact phase of fantasizing about suicide... this song sounds soo optimistic to me.(It makes me feel better when I know I'm not alone) But the lyrics are about what he's thinking. It's like a story:
  so he starts off by saying he's got a problem with his "violent side" which I think he is referring to his anger. He hates himself: "I've got a problem/ With me getting in the way"
  "so i take my face and bash it into a mirror/ i wont have to see the pain" I picture him standing in his bathroom staring at himself at the mirror fantasizing about "bashing" his face into the mirror so he "wont have to see the pain" (on his face[I think he might have been crying])"the state is elevating as this hurt turns into hating" He is saying his "pain" (as in a deep sadness) is turning into anger.. and he is "anticipating all the fucked up feeling again" (probably all the evil things he wants to do to the ones that put him in this state)
  "the hurt inside is fading" he is calming down from raging and now he is thinking more logically "this shit has gone too far" "all this time i've been waiting/ oh i can not grieve anymore/ for what's inside awaking/ im done, im not a whore" He was waiting for better days & he's tired of sitting around crying but now he has finally realized he doesnt have to take this sht from anyone.
  "you've taken everything and/ oh i can not give anymore" He has wasted so much time and effort on these people and he is finally done with them because he is completely drained.
  "My minds done with this" (I've made up my mind) So then he starts contemplating if giving up on them would benefit him: "okay i've got a question/ can i throw it all away/ take back what's mine"
  so all the while he has probably been cutting himself then he starts fantasizing again about completely giving up(commiting suicide): "so i take my time/ riding the blade down the line/ each cut, closer to the vein" (I get a vibe off of this that he feels he is slowly going mad) but after contemplating this over and over again he decides: "I'm here to stay" (yay! happy ending; he doesn't kill himself)

  General Comment:If you've ever heard of this company called CleanSlate then you can easily connect it with a music video using this song. FYI, CleanSlate is a neighborhood beautification business in other words picking up litter from the streets and bagging it, not as a job, rather an internship. It's like you're in a bad mood while pushing your garbage can on your route as you're collecting trash. You're wearing your bright green polo and grey dickies and you sure ain't smiling. It's 96 degrees outside, so you don't make eye contact with passerby for that matter. you just want to pace yourself until break time then tough it out til' quitting time. The opening riff states plainly "Here comes the garbage collecter,"... see how the rest of the video comes together? The weather, the look on the intern's face all sweaty, looking beat down, wheras most interns smile and wave: you got to, you're out in public and the shopkeeper can see you blocks away from your neon green shirt. When you think about it the whole things pretty sad...the very idea of picking up garbage...what's next? butt There are actual jobs out there, people. And there's this thing called an application. Come on!

  General Comment:ive decided i am going to have to comment on this song saying as i spent the last 2 and a half years of my life in a place of emotional pain i cant describe and finally in these past few days ive been comeing to terms with things wich to me is the main theme of this song. I always loved this song becuz i could relate with it atleast the part about the turmoil inside; depression,anxiety, border-line personality disorder, addiction ( which in this song john is referring to his sex addiction not wanting to be a whore anymore to escape the pain). But now i understand this song in and out.
  
  
  this song talks so much about these things with opening lines like

  the pain that doesnt leave that becomes who you are as it is wrapped in self identity. Wishing all the pain wasn't there ,hating yourself 24/7,living in that pain and seeing it in all its different forms understanding it so well being able to identify all the feelings and the hurt sadness and hopelessness being turned into hate and anger at yourself and all that is around you. the TV in the music video is a look into his mind of constant turmoil. Yeah i think on the surface it presents the things society can do to inflict pain upon the young minds like his once was but it is alot deeper. Looking back into his other music you can see all his pain, struggles horrible memories wich still haunted him.
