Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black
And I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh what can I do?
She thinks of him
And so she dresses in black
And though he'll never come back
She's dressed in black

Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black
And I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh what can I do?
I think of her
But she thinks only of him
And though it's only a whim
She thinks of him

Oh how long will it take
Till she sees the mistake
She has made?
Dear what can I do?
Baby's in black
And I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh what can I do?

General Comment:I do think it is about Astrid Kirchher mourning for Stuart Sutcliffe but it's also John's inability to express his grief for his dead friend. John's way was to act tough and not talk about his feelings.

And interpretation od these lines? I don´t imagine what it is about? Astrid loved Stuart and she lost him because he died. Ok, that´s right. But which mistake she made? An also why "whim"?
I have read that John put her down everytime(at the beginning)because she stole him his best friend (and maybe lover :-P). So their relationship was not good. That explains "whim" (he didn´t believe in their love or couldn´t want to believe.) But mistake... I don´t know.

General Comment:If the interpretation is right that the girl is in mourning for her past love why is it only a whim?

General Comment:This song wasn't about Astrid Kircher. Nor what it about a woman mourning her former lover. However, the dead man was related to her....

General Comment:i was listening to this song while high and got real offended because I thought it was about a girl who left a dude for a black dude and now he's all jealous and mad...I really hope thats not what its about

General Comment:this song clearly states the desire of a man to a girl who's man died. (she thinks of him and so she dresses in black ) states it perfectly, the girl loved and thought about her ex, that's why she was wearing black.

General Comment:well, cynthia lennon went through a phase where she wore all black all the time.. cuz that was in style. and a lot of songs were actually about cynthia. so that could have some meaning in the song.

General Comment:i think that the girl wont let go of her old boyfriend because he died and so another guy is sad about that or something

General Comment:I kind of hope this wasn't written about Astrid Kircher. That wouldn't be very sensitive considering they were friends with Stuart Sutcliffe. I feel like they wouldn't be so blunt towards someone they were close to. I don't know, that's just what I think.

General Comment:I don't want to hear this song at night because I'm a scaredy cat! Thanks to Stephen King's book, Everything's Eventual. And the story Man In The Black Suit. :)

Thankfully, I can do my duty as a Beatle fan to listen to this song on mornings. Haha.
