Lyrics for All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cove... as interpreted by Nelly

All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cove... Lyrics
There must be some way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief

Business men they
Drink my wine
There plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line
Know what any of it's worth

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many among us
Who feel that life is but a joke

But you and I we've been through all that, yes we have
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late

And all along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women, all the women
All the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl, la la la
Two riders, two riders approaching
The wind began to howl

The thief he take
My money take
The thief he take
My money take

Am I insane
Auf wiedersehen
Am I insane
The thief is safe

No reason to get excited

Dave's version is the best!! Especially the beginning! With the bass in it. I could listen to that forever!

Sean7711, perhaps you have never heard the Jimi Hendrix version. To compare Mr. Matthews to a rock god such as Jimi proves to me and the rest of those reading the posts that your mental compasity is sub par. Also, the Jimi hendrix version is a cover, making that best cover ever. Please feel free to respond and cuss and get defensive, i wouldn't expect anything less from someone who likes Dave Matthews.

nerdythewall- quit looking up songs by bands you don't like, it only shows how lame you are. Leave us dave fans alone.

Jeez. Who wrote the last stanza of the song?? Auf Wiedersehen??? I don't think so. The last stanza is:

The man inside,
Deep inside...

And I do love Dave but the Hendrix version is still better. Probably the greatest single rock song in history, but that's a debate for another room.

i'm a dave fan but i'm also a hendrix fan.. i don't know that i could agree with the hendrix version being better.. hendrix couldn't sing like dave can.. dave's singin is what makes his version truly great... that's the way i feel about it anyway

Oh man. I always thought this song was cool, but never did I realize how awesome it was until I heard it in concert the other night. The sheer emotion Dave and the band puts into this song is amazing. This one of my fav. DMB songs. By the way, Nerdythewall, lay off the Dave fans were not hurtin anyone.

I'm not going to argue whether Dave's or Jimi's version of this song is better... considering that these lyrics are posted as being Dave's... you want to comment on Jimi's version, then do it under his name. Anyhow, this song is AMAZING live. Not only can you feel the emotion coming from the vocals and instruments, but the crowd goes nuts as well. I heard this song a few weeks ago in Buffalo, and as the song was being played, there were fireworks going off in the distance, as if it were all planned. Simply powerful.

This has to be, by far, the best version of this song. I now agree that this song has something to do with Jesus, which a lot of Dave songs do. I downloaded a whole bunch of other live versions, besides the Live at Chicago. Woodstock was good... i recommend it! ;)

ok, listen up NerdyTheWell, you really ticked me off with that comment of yours bud. First of all, "Mr. Matthews" cannot be compared to your "rock god" Jimi Hendrix, simply because his greatness surpasses that of Jimi's so tremendously, that it would be a waste of both your time and mine to try. Now, don't get me wrong, Hendrix was great, but no where near Dave. Secondly, you have absolutely no business what so ever being in this area of this site if you don't like dave, we don't need your idiotic comments here. And finally, the bit about how you wouldn't expect anything less from a dave fan, well, did you expect this? I didn't think so.

m4hollywood, you actually think that Dave Matthews is better than a "rock god" like Jimi Hendrix? That shows how idiotic you really are. I commend NerdyTheWell for his opinion and all of you who think this is better should be shot for thinking so.

I am a HUGE DMB fan and i must say that i enjoy listening to the DMB version better than i like listening to the Jimi Henrdix version. I'm not at all comparing dave to jimi or the other way around i personaly just enjoy DMBs version more. As for someone saying the dave matthews can not even compare to jimi hendrix because "his greatness surpasses that of Jimi's so tremendously".......honey i HIGHLY doubt that, none the less though i love Dave.

I think this song is one of the greatest songs ever wheter done by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, or DMB. All I know is that none of you even mentioned Bob Dylan, He is the reason why all of you love this song. Without Bob Dylan, Dave wouldnt be playin it. So some respect for Dylan

U2's or Dylan's version was the best.

Hendrix sucked, such a cheap magician. He had nothin' on Page and he knew it.

This version is good, good energy for a jam band, but still not as good as Dylan's or U2's.
