i believe it was arthur alexander who both wrote and first performed this song. i haven't heard the original but i take it for granted that the beatles' version is better... just because... it's the beatles.

A cover song chosen by John, in which he sings lead. I believe he favored this song because the lyrics closely reflects his feelings for Julia, his biological mother....."all of my lfe, I've been searchin' for a girl, to love me...like I...love you." The "you" in the lyric is Julia.

I believe it is not only a song about Julia, John's mother, but also a simple song about a girl named Anna that he loves, but wishes only that she does what she wants, and that he will give her the choice of who to be with. Heartbreaking, but beautiful.

Hehe, I'm another Anna. We need a club or something.

Good story about this song... This summer I was at a 6-week program in a different state, and after a while I really got to missing my friends. This awesome chick named Joan called me a few weeks in, played this song in a message for me, and said something like "Yes. This is weird. But I'm simply going crazy here without you." I remember sitting in the library when I checked my messages, and laughing out loud when I heard that one.

I love the guitar fumbling around. such a great song. another theme song. regardless of who wrote it, it's all about being in love with someone who'd rather be with someone else.
