Lyrics for And Your Bird Can Sing as interpreted by Ice

And Your Bird Can Sing Lyrics
You tell that you've everything you want
And your bird can sing
But you don't get me
You don't get me

You say you've seen seven wonders
And your bird is green
But you can't see me
You can't see me

When your prized possessions start to wear you down
Look in my direction
I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round

When your bird is broken
Will it bring you down?
You may be awoken
I'll be 'round, I'll be 'round

Tell me that you've heard every sound there is
And your bird can swing
But you can't hear me
You can't hear me

Is it about materialism? I thought it was about a golddigger type of girl and someone breaking up with her. Or just a nice little break up tune.

I definitely agree with themachine. This is definitely a classic Beatles tune.. great guitar riffs, great vocal harmony, great lyrics, and a catchy melody. I could listen to it all day and not tire of it.

... you people, it has to do with a girl who this guy has a crush on, has forever, think back when you were in highschool, say you were a nerd, one gorgeous girl has all she wants, but what she doesnt realize that in a few years she could want him, but he will remember how she treated him and he has to be the better man not to sob over her for the years he spends without her gazing towards her

This is such an amazing song. One of the best on Revolver. Though, really, which song is not amazing on that album? The chorus is just amazing. The guitar riff, as fleaaaaaa said, is just amazing.

This song is John addressing Mick Jagger's overconfidence and appraisal of his then current woman, Marianne Faithfull, She is the "bird" because like in "Blackbird" girls are referred to as birds!
THERE YA GO YA BEATLEMANIACS!
The truth,
John hated the song actually, it amounted to nothing as he said, and was a real joke.

I personally think because he was kind of replicating his own composition from a year bbefore. "Nowhere Man",
Listen to the anthology 2 version to see what I mean.
The guitar is john and george's exceptional work for sure

For the "materialism" guy, I read a quote somewhere from Paul that dispels the myth of the Beatles being anti-materialistic. Although I can't remember the quote word for word, he first explicitly states that them being anti-materialists is a "huge myth" and then says that John and him had a joke where they would sit down and say, "ok now lets write a pool."

this is probably the best song on revolver, arguably. either this or she said, she said. it has been said that john had no recollection of writing or recording this song. not that that is so surprising, its just interesting. the guitar and harmonies are so good in this song..especially in the final verse. even though it has kind of a negative tone, this song always puts me in a good mood

I always thought this song was about the same kind of thing as Bob Dylans - Queen Jane Approximately, in that its about a girl who holds herself really high and the speaker of the song is an admirer of hers.

To me it'a about someone who thinks they've got and seen it all but they ain't seen sh!t. So yeah, it is about materialism. Even if the Beatles were materialistic (don't forget Johns love of cars and stuff) it doesn't mean they didn't see beyond that only. i thankyou.

The song is obviously directed against someone, like Baby You're a Rich Man which is about Brian Epstein (original lyrics include the words "baby you're a rich f** Jew). I came here to see if anyone knew who it was about, and I believe sebastianguilt has hit the nail on the head in his first comment.

I love this song. Listening to it makes me feel all oogy inside. The guitar parts were played live by George and Paul.
The working title for the song was "You don't get me"

I agree that the bird in this song is a woman. But I don't think it's Mick Jagger's girlfriend. I think it is Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes. The song is directed toward Phil Spector, who was probably the most famous record producer at the time with his "wall of sound". Ronnie Spector was Phil's wife. It's kind of a childish taunt..."you may be this famous record producer, but you don't get to produce the Beatles". On the lyric where the song says "and your bird is green", I think it refers to a time when John Lennon and Ronnie Spector were alone and John tried to seduce her. John thought Ronnie Spector was hot even before the Beatles were famous. At the height of the Beatles fame, John was not accustomed to failed advances, but Ronnie wasn't responding to John's on this particular day. So rather than John admitting that he wasn't irresistable, it was easier to tell himself that Ronnie Spector was inexperienced (green). This whole episode was in a biography on Ronnie Spector that come out in the last 10 or 15 years. Check it out. Another thing supporting this theory, is that John's inspiration for "She Said...She Said" was a meeting with Peter Fonda who was on an LSD trip when the Beatles were in L.A. And Your Bird Can Sing was written around the same time. And Phil Spector worked out of L.A. Around the time that John was being interviewed on the meanings of his songs, Phil Spector was producing or had produced the "Let It Be" album, a lot of John's post Beatles work, and a lot of George's post Beatles work. So at the time John was being interviewed, it would have been awkward, to say the least, to admit that "And Your Bird Can Sing" was about Spector.

I think it is important to realise that as song writers, John and Paul knew that a song would have to mean something to people regardless of what motivated one or the other to write a song. So, it really doesn't matter what or who John/Paul was thinking of when the/he wrote the song. The song creates meaning for every listener. Thats what made the Beatles such a great band. Their songs, style, personalities, all resonated with others.

this is not the beatles best song, but it is no doubt there greatest riffit was played with a bunch of multi tracked guitars, whch is wot gives it that heavy feeling.Bob Dylan described it as "the strength of strings no voice can hope to hum"
compared to the riff who cares wot the words mean?
