Don't get any big ideas
They're not going to happen
You paint yourself white and feel the noise
But there'll be something missing

And now that you found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails

She stands stark naked and she beckons you to bed
Don't go, you'll only want to come back again

So don't get any big ideas
They're not going to happen
You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking

And now that you found it, it's gone
And now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails

General Comment:could be about sex if you take it literally. but i also think that it could be about anything dangerous and seductive - drug use, for example. "paint yourself white" = skin getting washed out. "now that you found it, it's gone." it's the push and pull before relapse.

    General Comment:Lots of literalists!

Anything we truly desire has a dark side. It seduces us. Once we go to it, give in to it, we always want more. In every desire granted, there's a loss. Perhaps it's disappointing. Perhaps the thrill of the chase was better than the catch. Perhaps the cost is too high.

And what if we don't give in? Once we've found this precious golden prize and hesitate - it's gone. It passes us by. There'll be something missing.

We're disappointed when we win; heartbroken when we lose.

Better not to even start. Don't get any big ideas.

General Comment:Without a doubt the texture of this song portrays exactly what the lyrics convey....the song is most certainly about pleasures of flesh, and furthermore a deeper feeling that is associated with this sensation...one in which even bodily control is lost to this desire.

General Comment:am I the only one who's noticed that the ending is almost identical to a song on the little mermaid?

General Comment:yeah! I like forgotten's interpretation as well... I don't know why, but I instantly thought of 1984 when I read these lyrics. Something about not getting any big ideas and suppressing your thoughts... anyone?

General Comment:I like your interpretation, forgotten412. I think the song probably touches on the disappointment of an existing (maybe long-term) relationship, along with the feelings that maybe it isn't possible to have a good long-term relationship. But I think there's also the guilt part over having sexual thoughts for someone he isn't supposed to have feelings for. There's a sense of tremendous guilt for sexual needs over someone who's forbidden, and possibly not feeling them for the woman he's in a relationship with.

General Comment:These posts are better than the ones on the 'nude' section. cant someone collaborate the two? anyway, yes I agree with jmckenzie above. that sums it up for me and its been my favourite song since i heard it ten years ago and cried. new version is great too.

General Comment:The part "You paint your house white and feel the noise" is supposed to be "You paint yourself white and feel all the noise"
